F Read the online posts. Then complete the sentences with numbers based on
information from the text.
Some people are content to live in places with extreme temperatures; some prefer milder weather. What is
the weather like where you live? Are you happy with it? Or would you prefer to live somewhere else?
Most people seem to want to live in a hot climate, but I can tell you that there are many disadvantages. I
live in a tropical region, which means that the average temperature all year round is above 70F and that it’s
usually pretty hot and humid. This is why I’m much happier when I travel to areas where the temperatures are
lower and the climate is drier. You can get so much more done in such places!
I live in Montreal and the weather here varies along the year – temperatures can go down to -14C in January
but reach 26C in July. For me, that is perfect, because I enjoy the variety and, above all, the different seasons.
My favorite is fall because of the colors and the feeling of change in the air. I also think that seasons affect
how we feel, and for me there is something about fall that makes me feel more alive.
Where I live, the winters can be absolutely horrible! And I simply hate cold weather! I find that, during the
winter months, I don’t do very much. I basically stay at home and spend a lot of money on heating. While, in
the summer, I spend more time outside, see more people, play more sports – feel healthier and happier. If it
were possible, I’d live in a place with no winter and where the temperature never goes down to freezing!
Well, sometimes the weather we choose is not a matter of preference, but of necessity. After all, the weather
can influence what we wear, what we eat, and even our health. Last year, I found out I had Seasonal Affective
Disorder (SAD). In Norway, where there is very little sunlight in the winter, this type of depression can affect
about 15% of the population. I felt tired a lot and had difficulty concentrating, so I decided that the best
solution was to move to a sunnier place.
1 The percentage of Norwegian people with the problem described in the text is .
2 In the summer, according to the text, the temperature in Montreal can go up to .
3 out of the four people who posted comments seemed happy with the local climate.
4 of the people decided to make a life change because of the weather.
5 One of the people enjoys visiting places where the temperature is lower than .
