PLANT FAMILIARIZATIONREPORT
Rihand Super Thermal Power Project is located in District Sonebhadra of Uttar Pradesh and
situated on the Southern bank of Rihand reservoir, a large artificial lake, popularly known as
“GovindVallabh Pant Sagar Lake”. This power station has been projected to have a capacity of 3000MW
in three stages, each consisting of 1000MW. The power station is supplying power to the states in
Northern Grid viz. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, H.P., Rajasthan, J&K and the Union Territory
of Chandigarh. The raw material i.e. Coalis supplied through Northern Coal field( Amlori Mines)located
in Distt. Singrauli (MP), water from the Rihand reservoir and Oil (LDO) from IOCL terminals at
Bongaigaon/Haldia.
FIRE HAZARDS:-
Coal in coal handling plant and at conveyors
Cables in cable galleries.
Fuel oil handling in main plant.
Transformer oil.
Hydrogen plant
MOT (Main Oil Tanks)
Switch Yards
CCR/ECR of different stages.
EXPLOSION HAZARDS:-
1) Hydrogen plant
2) Turbine Generator where Hydrogen is used of cooling of Gen. Winding.
3) Transformers
4) Boilers
5) Coal dust in mills and boilers.
RELEASE OF GASES:-
Chlorine used in water treatment plant& Hydrogen used for cooling of Turbo Generators
