    Teacher Day Time Branch TA Class

    • DVDs of these movies (or any 6 of your choosing with some variety in terms of genre): Blade 2,
    Citizen Kane, Cloverfield, Kung Fu Panda, Be Kind Rewind, and Juno
    • A method of watching these movies (DVD, personal laptop, etc)

    Stage: Aim: Students will watch and discuss movies from six different genres.

    Time: 80 Method:
    • Introduction: Introduce topic of movies. Elicit types of movies from students
    and make a list. Add on any ones that they have forgotten, go over definitions.
    • Good Movies vs. Bad Movies. Begin by going over list of movie adjectives.
    Ask Ss to name some good movies, then to name some bad ones. What made
    the good ones good? What made the bad ones bad?
    • Questions for each clip:
    • What type of movie is this?
    • What does the scene look like?
    • What do the characters look like?
    • Do you like this type of movie?
    • Who is the target audience for this type of movie?
    • What movies have you seen like this one?
    • Clip #1: Blade 2. Watch a bit of the fight scene, then discuss.
    • Clip #2: Citizen Kane. Watch a bit of the fight scene, then discuss.
    • Clip #3: Cloverfield. Chapter 15, rewind to 1:05 and watch till the chopper
    gets hit, then discuss.
    • Clip #4: Kung Fu Panda. Chapter 7. Watch a bit the scene, then discuss.
    • Clip #5: Be Kind, Rewind. Chapter 4. Watch a bit the scene, then discuss.
    • Clip #6: Juno. Chapter 4. Watch a bit the scene, then discuss.
    • Favorite/Least Favorite Movie Review. Ask Ss to pick their favorite movie (or
    their least favorite) and write a short review of it. (5 minutes). Cut out one of
    the movie clips if there isn’t going to be enough time…
