2.4 Other Hazards Summary: Pyrotechnic mixtures are known to burn with intense heat and give off toxic
fumes. Confining a pyrotechnic mixture while burning may result in severe consequences.
• Uncontrolled activation may result in burn injuries from combustion products (particles, gases).
• Uncontrolled activation may result in blast trauma.
• Uncontrolled activation may result in eye or airway irritation through combustion products.
• Hazard Communication Standard (HMIS): Health-2, Flammability-2, Physical-1
• This is a sealed device. Under anticipated handling, storage and use conditions, chronic exposure to
chemical ingredients is highly unlikely. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause more severe
irritation or dermatitis. Prolonged or repeated inhalation may cause more severe irritation and possibly
lung damage. Potassium perchlorate may cause methemoglobinemia, which is characterized by
chocolate-brown colored blood, headache, weakness, dizziness, breath shortness, cyanosis (bluish skin
due to deficient oxygenation of blood), rapid heart rate, unconsciousness and possible death. Zirconium
may cause skin granulomas with prolonged or repeated skin contact. May cause liver and kidney damage.

SECTION 3: COMPOSITION/INGREDIENT/COMPONENT INFORMATION

3.1 Pyrotechnic Article: Pyrotechnic ingredients in this article are sealed from the environment (delivery
condition) and cannot be released under normal or foreseeable conditions of use including professional
disposal without destroying the article. Typically, this pyrotechnic article has a glass-to-metal seal header,
bridge wire ignition element, charge sleeve, can, insulator cup and injection molding. The pyrotechnic
ignition charge and output charge are sealed inside the completed assembly.
3.2 EC Classification No. 1272/2008/EC
Ignition Charge
Hazardous Ingredients WW% CAS No. EC No. Hazard Pictogram
Zirconium 40-60 7440-67-7 231-176-9

Potassium Perchlorate 40-60 7778-74-7 231-912-9

Viton B Binder 1-5 9011-17-0 N/A None

SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES

4.1 First Aid Measures: General first-aid rules should be followed.
Inhalation: Remove from danger, supply fresh air, and seek medical attention.
Eyes: Rinse with clear water and seek medical attention.
Skin: Wash skin thoroughly with soap and seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink plenty of water and seek medical attention.
4.2 Acute Trauma: Blast injuries may occur should the product deploy accidentally. Immediate medical
treatment is essential to achieve ideal patient outcome and recovery. Treat potential skeletal and soft
tissue injuries symptomatically. These injuries may not be immediately recognized. Occupational exposure
levels for pre- and post-product use is highly unlikely due to the manufacture of this product which isolates
hazardous ingredients by a welded, hermetic sealing process.

SECTION 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

5.1 Fire and Explosion Hazard: An external fire will not cause the device or the entire packaged contents to
activate or ignite all at one time.
5.2 Advice for Fire Fighters:
♦ Try to keep fire away from packaging or pyrotechnic articles.
♦ Evacuate the area if fire reaches packaging or pyrotechnic articles.
♦ Never fight explosive fires!
5.3 Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical, foam or water spray or media suitable on surrounding material
for cooling purposes.
5.4 Products of Decomposition: See Section 10 (Stability and Reactivity).

SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE OR SPILL

6.1 Precautionary Measures: In the case of destruction or damage of the pyrotechnic article (discharge of
the pyrotechnic ingredients), remove potential ignition sources. This pyrotechnic article may activate when
exposed to fire, heat, electrical energy, electrostatic energy, shock or mechanical loads (crush or impact).
6.2 Environmental Precautions: Ventilation recommended. Do not allow pyrotechnic articles or ingredients
to get into bodies of water, wastewater or soil.
6.3 Process for Clearing: Put on protective equipment before entering the area (e.g., safety glasses w/ side
shields, flame-resistant shop coat, gloves). Igniter – Carefully pick up the igniter and place in a non-static
generating container. Pyrotechnic powder – Saturate the pyrotechnic material with water (spray bottle).
Wipe contaminated surfaces with a wet cloth and place all contents (powder and cloth) in a sealable, non-
static generating container. Seal the container to prevent the pyrotechnic material from drying out. This
pyrotechnic material is less sensitive to ignition sources when properly wetted with water. Contact an
authorized environmental firm and dispose in accordance with applicable laws, regulations or ordinances.
6.4 Reference to other sections: See sections 7, 8 & 13.

SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE

7.1 General Precautions: Keep fire away, keep away from ignition sources, heat and sparks.

request assistance from the supplier.
Do not attempt to open or breach this device.
Do not attempt to make repairs on this device. Consult supplier for return or disposal instructions.
Do not attempt to remove or allow damage to the wire leads, if applicable.
Do not misuse or mistreat this device.
Limit and prevent electrostatic charging or discharge.
7.3 Storage:
Safeguard from theft, unauthorized use or unauthorized removal.
This pyrotechnic article is guaranteed for fifteen (15) years and will store well in a cool, dry location.
Keep pyrotechnic articles away from materials that may increase storage hazards.
Protect pyrotechnic article and packaging from fire, heat, electrical energy, shock, friction or impact.
