I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 100% of the learners are expected to:
a. Identify adverbs of manner.
b. Perform actions to show understanding about adverbs of manner.
c. Appreciate the importance of adverbs of manner in our daily activities.

III. Procedures
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Review
Ask: What is an adjective?
What are the three degrees of adjective?
When should we use the positive degree?
When should we use the comparative degree?
When should we use the superlative degree?
B. Developmental Activities
a. Motivation
Activity: Do as I Say
Procedures: The teacher will ask the learners to perform the following actions.
1. Dance happily.
2. Walk quietly.
3. Sit properly.
Ask: What are the actions that I asked you to do?
How did you perform the actions?
b. Presentation
The learners will read the short story entitled, “A Trip to Baguio City.”
Say: I have a short story to tell but bbefore we read the story, let us
check first if you know the meaning of these words: Trip, Summer, and
Vacation.
Unlocking Difficulties
Trip- to travel somewhere, usually for a short time, and come back
again.
Summer- the hottest and brightest of the four temperate seasons.
Vacation- a period that a person spends away from home, school, or business
usually to relax.
"A Trip to Baguio City"
It was the start of summer. Harrish excitedly woke up. School days are
over!
The next day, his father added, “Let us visit Baguio City, the summer capital of
the country. ” And Harrish was eagerly asking his parents to go for a trip, right
away.
They ended their summer vacation happily and Harrish shouted, “What
a nice vacation! ” Finally, they went home safely.
Ask: What is the is the title of the story?
Who are the characters in the story?
*In the sentence, “Harish excitedly woke up,” which word describes how
Harrish woke up?
*Harrish was eagerly asking his parents to go for a trip, how did Harrish
ask his parents about the trip.
*They ended their summer vacation happily. How did they end their
vacation?
*Harish shouted loudly. How did Harish shout?
*In the sentence, Finally, they went home, which words describe how
they went home?
Show the given adverbs of manner from the story and ask what they have
noticed from those words.
Ask: What do they have in common?”
Define adverb of manner.
Adverb of manner tells how an action is done. It answers the question "how".
Example:
1. Leo kicks the ball strongly.
How did Leo kick?
Answer: Strongly
Identify the rules and give examples.
1. Add ly to the adjective.
Example: Bad+ly= Badly
2. If the adjectives end in -y change y to I I and ly.
Example: Lazy-y+I+ly=Lazily
3. If the adjective ends in -le take the -e out and replace it with +y.
Example: Credible-e+-y

C. Practice Exercises
Activity: Pancake Making
Procedures: Show a recipe of a pancake and the procedures of making or cooking it.
Then ask the learners to locate the adverbs of manner in the Procedures and to
identify the verbs being described by the adverb of manner.

Ask the learners to locate the adverbs of manner in the Procedures and to identify the
verbs being described by the adverb of manner.
Give more examples of sentences with adverbs of manner.
Identify the adverbs of manner.
1. The girl writes slowly.
2. She walks quietly.
3. My best friend draws beautifully.
4. He answers actively.
5. She opened the door excitedly.
E. Reinforcing the concept and skill.
Activity: Fill in the blanks.
Procedures: The learners will complete the sentences with the appropriate adverb of
manner. Choose the answer from the box.
Group Activity: The teacher will group the learners into 3.
Procedures: The teacher will provide jumbled sentences then the learners will re-
arrange it and encircle the adverb of manner. The first group to finish wins.

1. She sings beautifully.
2. The boy sat calmly.
Group 2
1. She spoke softly.
2. He ran quickly.
Group 3
1. She eats gently.
2. He sat properly.
