expected to:

a. Identify and describe the types of bread;

b. Appreciate the value of using the right bread
for sandwiches; and

ABSTRACTION

Bread is a food made of flour, water, and yeast

or another leavening agent, mixed together and
baked.
Example: Loaf Bread, cornbread, and quick loaf
breads like banana bread and zucchini bread.
To give you additional information about the
types of bread, let’s have a thorough discussion
of our lesson today.
Types of Bread
1.Yeast Bread. A Bread that uses yeast as a
leavener. The yeast causes the formation of
carbon dioxide gas through fermentation of the
sugars in the bread dough. This causes the bread
to rise, making it light and airy.

For example: White Bread

It is one of the most versatile sandwich bread,

and it comes in various flavors and goes well
with everything.

Example 2: Whole Wheat Bread

A classic bread for sandwiches, it is nutritionally

superior to white bread, taste better and have
more interesting textures.

“Wheat breads offer more vitamins, whole grains

and fiber, and they have less of a negative
impact on blood sugar, which can be helpful for
people who have insulin resistance, according to
Mokari, CNN Health 2022.”

2. Buns and Rolls. A soft type bread that come

in all sizes, shapes and textures.

Example: Sandwich Roll

The softest type of bread, it includes hamburger

buns and hot dog rolls.
3.Flat Bread. These are made from flatten often
unleavened breads. Unleavened bread is any of a
wide variety of breads which are prepared without
using rising agents such as yeast.

Example 1: Focaccia

Flat Italian bread, a cousin of pizza an inch or

more thick and very rich in olive oil.

Example 2: Pita

Comes in both white and whole wheat. As the

flat bread bakes, it puffs up, forming a pocket
that is perfect for stuffing.

Example 3: Tortillas

Unleavened round corn meal breads baked on a

hot stone, size ranges to 6 inch-14 inch or larger
preferably used for quesadillas and burritos.

4. Wraps. These are very thin, flat breads that are

used for sandwich wraps, burritos and tacos.
Example: Sandwich Wrap

A delightful twist on traditional sandwiches,

where ingredients are cozily bundled in a soft
tortilla or flatbread.

5. Quick Bread. These breads are raised by

chemical action of baking powder or baking soda
like biscuits, banana bread, carrot bread and
generally more tender and crumbly than yeast
bread.

Example:

Quick breads include muffins, biscuits, scones,

cornbread, and quick loaf breads like banana
bread and zucchini bread.
