How did the speaker introduce the topic of his speech and capture the attention of the

audience?

The speaker introduced the topic of his speech by starting with a metaphor between the

rose and the audience. The topic of his speech is about having something special within

you that makes you as beautiful and unique as the rose. He picked out the petals, broke

them into two, and threw them into the trash to explain more about his topic – when you

are broken, it is very difficult to feel special. And with this theatrical acting, and

metaphorical lines, he managed to pique the curiosity and captured the attention of the

audience.

2. What is the important point(s) highlighted by the speaker in his speech? How did he

provide supporting details?

The important point highlighted by the speaker in his speech is that there are people who

can see something in you no matter how lost and destroyed you are. And they can help

you – they can replace your lost pieces and fix the destroyed ones. Everything that has

been said wouldn’t be relatable and inspiring as it is when the speaker didn’t share

personal experiences to support the message. The speaker was once lost and destroyed

too but with the people around him that saw something special in him, he was found and

became whole again. And now he is a dreamer, speaker and learned the unfailing quality

of unconditional love.

3. Did the speaker conclude his speech with a lasting impression? How did he reinforce

the central idea?


Yes, the speaker concluded his speech with a lasting impression. He picked up the rose he

threw in the trashcan and before he leaves the stage, he stared eye-to-eye with the

audience, pointed at them, and said his remarkable last line – “Ladies and gentlemen,

when I look at you, I see something in you, but I don’t know what it is”. And the speaker

reinforced the idea using an anecdote, great people in your life no matter how broke, how

lost or how broken you become they can bring you back together.

speech? Describe his speech delivery techniques.

There are lot of non-verbal communications strategies utilized by the speaker in his

speech and that includes eye contact, facial expressions, hand gestures, body language,

and use of object. The speaker maintained eye contact with the audience from the

beginning up to the end of his speech, used different facial expressions such as serious

face to explain the profound moment, used hand gestures to dramatize his speech, used

body language such as standing with confidence at the center of the stage, and used an

object such as rose to make it easier for the audience to understand the message of the

speech. The way the speaker used non-verbal communications strategies are indeed

impressive and important for easy and effective delivery of the message and even the

speech itself.

speaking skills.

Yes, the speaker demonstrated effective use of the language. The speaker used

informative language to describe and to emphasize the story he was sharing, example is
when he said, “I see a strange man seated in the back row, humble, simple, the unfailing

quality of kindness in his eyes”. The speaker was able to convey the inspiring message of

his speech through his clear pronunciations of words, his choice of words – he used

metaphor, correct use of grammar, and use of different tones to highlight the important

point. His speech was brief but comprehensive and his speaking skills were great in a

way he was able to share stories that the audience could understand, relate, and connect

to the emotions.

6. What is your overall impression of the speech performance? What are the effective

communication skills demonstrated by the speaker?

Public speaking is hard for many reasons, but the way the speaker delivered his speech

performance was indeed impressive. The speaker was confident, managed to capture the

attention of the audience, conveyed and concluded the message of his speech concisely,

showed great speech delivery techniques and speaking skills which left a remarkable

impression to the audience including myself. He used non-verbal communication such as

hand gestures, body language, facial expressions, and physical appearance. Overall, he

did a great performance and it highly shows how important effective communication

skills, speaking skills, and delivery strategies are in public speaking, speeches, everyday

communication, and more.
