Coconut is widely used in food Industry within industrial food plants as well as at homes.
Scraping coconuts is quite a time consuming task. Manually doing so requires a lot of efforts and
provides fine scraped coconut as desired for food preparation and requires no manual effort. It
also does this work in a fraction of time. The system uses a shaft with holder to hold half cut
coconut in place. This holder shaft is held in place by mounts designed for it. Also a frame is
made to hold the entire mechanism. On the other side has another shaft that is mounted
horizontally with scraping tool attached to it at one end. At the other end it has a motor attached
to the shaft. The motor is powered by our electrical circuit to move the scraper tool and the
coconut can be pushed against it to achieve coconut scraping in a short time without much
manual effort.
Many researchers have hypothesized the origin of coconut (cocos nucifera) example the
American botanist orator F. Cook was one of the modern researcher to propose a hypothesis in
1901 on the location of the origin of coconut. He hypothesized that the coconut originated in
Americas, this was based on his belief that the American coconut populations predated European
contact. Thor Heyerdahl later hypothesized in 1950 that coconut originated as two migration
streams from the Canadian pacific coat to Hawaii, and on to Tahiti and New Zealand in a series
of hopes another migration from South America (The source, 2016). Coconut scrapping is the
process of extracting the coconut kernel from the shell using an appropriate tool or machine
ready to be used for processing the final product. Coconut is widely used in our day to day home
activities. The flesh of the coconut is the important product used by homemakers in preparing
dishes. For this purpose, the coconut needs to be processed Coconuts are known for their
versatility of uses ranging from food to cosmetics. The kernel which is the white fleshy inner
part of the coconut is used to extract coconut milk and coconut oil when scrapped also the
scrapped coconut kernel is good for digestion and helps to treat acidity in the body. Raw coconut
kernel in scrapped form can be a good source of saturated fats for the body when consumed. The
scrapped coconut kernel contains high amount of dietary fiber which helps to break down the
fats thus assisting in weight loss. It is also known to contain antioxidant which help to flash
In small-scale coconut processing, coconuts are cracked with the use of a hammer or knife. The
kernel is extracted using hand tools or mounted-type coconut scrapers. Even in smallscale
coconut processing, the use of manual tools is very tedious and effort is required (Practical
Action, 2008). Manually-operated coconut scraper machines are portable and may be used
effectively in households, using the clamping screw to clamp the entire mechanism securely on a
table. As one rotates the manual handle, the rotation is transferred to the scraping bit (Figure 1a).
The dehusked coconut half-shell is pressed against the sharp bit while in rotation (Figure 1b).
This device requires a fair amount of effort to grate a coconut. Attention is required by the
Introduction
Manufacturing technology is that the application of physical and chemical change to vary or alter
the geometry, properties and appearences of a starting material to form part or products.
Manufacturing also about assembly the multiple parts to create a product. Economically,
manufacturing is transformaing of materials into greater value by ots process or assembly. Easy
to said that manufacturing increases the value of the material by changing its shape or properties
or bu combining with other materials. The knowledge about manufacturing practice will give big

Malayalis’ craving for grated coconut is a stuff of legend. But grating coconuts has turned out to
be a daunting task for the ever-busy, on-the-move neo nuclear family, leaving them to depend on
packed products that are easily available in the market. There has been no change in the way
coconut is grated, for several decades. The only change being the introduction of a motorized
blade. But still, one has to hold the coconut. But all that is set to change with the invention of an
innovative coconut grater which can do the job in just few minutes with improved safety and
convenience.
The figure below shows some of the coconut graters discovered till now. The problem with all
these designs is that someone should hold the coconut near the blade all the time. Also scraping
coconut using these machines are really time consuming and laborious. Also there is less safety
while using these scrappers. The innovative design of the grating machine presented here solves
Comércio de Máquinas Agrícolas Ltda), located in the city of Campina Grande, state of Paraíba,
agribusiness and has been seeking solutions for the preservation of the environment face to the
seasonality problem encountered by the branch where it operates. Thus, it was identified the need
for an equipment that could facilitate the use of waste (urban waste) generated by industries that
use the pulp or even the in natura consume of green and dry coconut. The present work proposes
the development of the conceptual design of a machine to defibrate the coconut shell and that
meets the technological needs for the applications of the produced fibers, aiming to realize the
process of defibration in a single machine thus increasing the productivity and quality of the
produced fibers. The conceptual design of the proposed shredder presents a semiautomatic feed
system with feed rollers that will crush green coconut in order to remove some of its moisture,
these rollers will be driven by a gear reducer, crown and endless. Afterwards, a rotor beater,
composed of six rectangular bar modules, equally spaced, will receive the crushed coconut. The
objective of this rotor is to promote the coconut defibration by beating (impact of the bars with
the coconut). Finally, a small fiber cleaner rotor ("porcupine" type), integrated to the beater
system, will be coupled on the same axis in order to obtain cleaner fibers.
Automation has played a vital, not only in modern industrial procesess, but also in the
agricultural corp processing systems. It is characterized by self-acting machine and devices with
integrated control systems that are often arranged in complex processes or systems. the necessary
of automation is to reduce the human effor and save time as the world is emerging with various
types of technolgy for better quality of life and efficient production of food, automation and
mechanization technology for agricultural machines are used for faster, lesser labor agricultural
production for sustainable agriculture. The agriculture industry is already adopying the modern
ways of crop production and processing. On of the agricultural crop that need modernization for
Scientifically known as ‘Cocos nucifera’ the coconut plant has been very useful to mankind
because of its beneficial parts. The coconut meat is widely used in dishes especially for its milk.
The shel is converted into charcoal through pyrolysis process. The husk is a source of fiber that
is significantly made as household items such as ropes and brush. The leaves are used as a roof
for a hut. The tree trunk is also used for building house or furniture. Coconut is referred to as
‘The Tree of Life’ because of is promissing use and is indeed one of the valuable gifts of nature.
