SENATE PRESIDENT

JUAN PONCE ENRILE was elected unanimously by his peers to the third highest position in the country, the Senate Presidency, a position he is now serving for the second time. He is now on his fourth term as Senator. Juan Ponce Enrile earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines in 1953. He graduated cum laude and salutatorian. He took his oath as a member of the Philippine Bar in 1954. He ranked No. 11 among the successful bar candidates with a rating of 91.72%, one of the highest in the history of the Bar.

As the eldest son of President Joseph Marcelo Ejercito Estrada and Senator Luisa Pimentel-Ejercito Estrada, it is not surprising that like his parents, the Filipino masses have a special place in the heart of Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada, along with siblings, Jacqueline Ejercito-Lopez and Jude Ejercito. Senator Jinggoy finished his primary and secondary education at the Ateneo de Manila University and earned a degree in A.B. Economics from the University of the Philippines. He took up Bachelor of Laws for four (4) years at the Lyceum University while serving as Vice-Mayor at the Municipality of San Juan at a young age of 25.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara


An educator, lawyer, banker, farmer, patron of the arts is the longest serving senator in the post-EDSA Senate. Except for a mandatory term break, he has been elected to four consecutive terms of six years each. Throughout his long and storied career as a legislator, Angara advocated for legislation that made a direct impact on the lives of millions of Filipinos.

Joker P. Arroyo
Seldom do we have a Filipino leader who has so much ardor and commitment both as a human rights lawyer and freedom fighter. Senator Joker P. Arroyo has a long history of these traits by handling more human rights cases than any other lawyer from 1972-1986. A graduate of the UP College of Law and the Ateneo de Manila, his meteoric rise to national consciousness started when he challenged before the Supreme Court of the Philippines the constitutionality of Proclamation No. 1081 imposing martial law. Senator Arroyos brilliant skills as a trial lawyer was demonstrated when he helped defend political detainees such as Ninoy Aquino, Eugenio Lopez, Jr., Serge Osmea III, Jose Ma. Sison, Jovito Salonga, Nene Pimentel, Eva Kalaw, Renato Taada, Eduardo Olaguer and many others.

Pia S. Cayetano
She is the youngest woman elected in the history of the Philippine Senate. A lawyer, triathlete and mother of two, Senator Pia S. Cayetano is continuously proving that there is no limit to what Filipino women can do and achieve Pia first ran for the Senate in 2004 as a complete newcomer in politics. The public knew little about her then apart from being the daughter of the late Senator Companero Rene L. Cayetano. But this was to change in the next six years, as Pia would prove herself worthy of the overwhelming mandate she received from the electorate on her neophyte term..

Miriam Defensor Santiago


Miriam Defensor Santiago became globally famous with her courageous and brilliant crusade against corruption in the Philippines. As a result, at 43, she was named Laureate of the Asian Nobel Prize, known as the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service. She was cited "for bold and moral leadership in cleaning up a graft-ridden government agency.Miriam was widely featured in the international press because of her charisma, flamboyant personality, and her signature witticisms, making her good copy. In 1997, the Australian magazine named her one of "The 100 Most Powerful Women in the World." In later years, Miriam was keynote speaker of the international anticorruption conference in Sydney, Australia. As senator, she sponsored and secured ratification by the Philippine Senate of the UN Convention Against Corruption.

Franklin M. Drilon
Born on November 28, 1945, in Iloilo City, to Cesar M. Drilon, Sr. and Primitiva M. Drilon, both deceased. He is married to Milagros Serrano Genuino from San Jose, Camarines Sur. He was formerly married to the late Atty. Violeta Calvo Drilon, with whom he has two children, Eliza Drilon-Luna and Patrick Drilon. Francis Joseph Guevara Escudero or Chiz was born on October 10,


1969, and studied at the University of the Philippines from kindergarten to college where he took up law. In 1994, he passed the Philippine Bar and went on to obtain a Masters degree in International and Comparative Law at Georgetown University in 1996. As a practicing lawyer and teacher, he decided to enter politics in 1998 and was elected Representative of the 1st District of Sorsogon and was voted by his peers as Assistant Majority Floor Leader.

Teofisto "TG" D. Guingona III

A man who has lived his public life in accordance with the principle that public office is a public trust. All government officials must at all times be accountable to the people. TG, as he is called by friends and colleagues, is presently a Senator of the Republic of the Philippines in the 15th Congress (2010-2016). TG is a lawyer and graduated from the Ateneo de Manila with a degree in Economics and Law. He is married to his Ateneo Law classmate, Atty. Maria Victoria Garcia Guingona and they have a son, Bobby.

Panfilo M. Lacson
Filipinos came to know him for his sterling and "no non-sense" leadership as Chief of the Philippine National Police. As chief policymaker of the police organization, Senator Panfilo M. Lacson was responsible for the serious reforms in the PNP that had won the confidence of businessmen and foreign investors and the cooperation of the general public when he initiated closer coordination with other law enforcement agencies, here and abroad, in the fight against narcotics trafficking through supply constriction and demand reduction.

Manuel "Lito" M. Lapid


Born on October 25, 1955 to a poor family in Porac, Pampanga, Senator Manuel Lito M. Lapid was immediately immersed in the rigors of life and hard work. As a former stuntman and movie actor whose parents never ventured into the world of politics, the call to serve the people never occurred to him until he was elected Vice Governor of the Province of Pampanga in 1992. It was during this time that Lito Lapid was entrusted a difficult task of rallying his Cabalens to fight the seemingly insurmountable adversity brought about by the devastating effects of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

of San Pablo, Laguna and Manila, and the late Bessie Gella Bautista of Antique and Malabon. She is the granddaughter of one of the late pillars of Philippine journalism, Jose P. Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr.


In his 17 years of public service, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. has achieved for himself a distinguished record as a lawmaker, government official, and public administrator, most of which were accomplished away from the spotlight. Bongbong became drawn to the challenges of public service early on in life, having observed how both his parents devoted their lives to public service for more than two decades. At a very young age of 23, he was elected vice-governor of Ilocos Norte.

Tagged as the Senates Maverick for being fiercely independent, Senator Serge Osmea, who is of Cebuano-Negrense-llonggo ancestry, takes pride that his family has had the honor to have contributed three generations of direct descendants to serve in

the Philippine Senate. Both his grandfathers -- Sergio Osmea Sr. and Esteban dela Rama -- and his father, Sergio Osmea Jr., had been prominent lawmakers.

Manny Villar was born to humble beginnings in Moriones, Tondo, Manila. His father, Manuel Montalban Villar, Sr., hailed from Cabatuan, Iloilo and his mother Curita Bamba came from Orani, Bataan.At an early age, he helped his mother sell seafood at the Divisoria market in order to support his siblings and himself to school. With the burning desire for a better future and strong determination to improve his familys lives, Manny finished his studies at the University of the Philippines (UP) where he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Business Administration.

He started his professional career as an accountant and financial analyst for prominent corporations before venturing into his own business.
