CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Objectives

This study aims to understand the experiences of students who live apart

from their parents through the following:

1. To know their perceptions about their profession.

2. To determine the reason for choosing the health care profession.

3. To determine what their inspirations are that have driven them to fulfill

their role despite the challenges in their profession.

Background of the study

Caregivers, usually called "nurse aids," are unsung heroes who play a

crucial role in the healthcare system. Their unwavering dedication and

commitment are evident as they offer vital support and aid to those in need,

exemplifying a critical aspect of the healthcare system. Though once thought to

be a job largely performed by women, the role of caregiver has changed to

embrace diversity and defy gender stereotypes by taking men into consideration.

In addition, there are more and more members of the LGBTQ community working

in the caregiving field today, demonstrating how inclusive this field is.

Amidst these changes, the study "Perception of Marginalized Caregivers

Towards Their Profession" explores the complex subtleties of caregivers from

underprivileged neighborhoods. The purpose of the study is to provide insight

into how these caregivers view their roles as they navigate cultural, economic,

and gender-related obstacles. The research aims to provide a platform for the

voices of marginalized caregivers by concentrating on their experiences and

attempting to uncover the complex layers of their professional journey.

This study's main goal is to investigate and understand the emotions and

difficulties marginalized caregivers experience when taking on the honorable duty

of providing care for others. Through examining their perspectives, the research

hopes to provide insightful information that can guide practices and legislation

meant to promote diversity in the caregiving industry. This research aims to

promote a more equal and encouraging atmosphere for everyone who chooses

to take on the selfless journey of caring for others, irrespective of their identity or

origin, by carefully analyzing the caregiver's point of view.

Scope and Delimitation

The goal of this research is to develop a deep understanding of the beliefs

that caregivers from underrepresented backgrounds hold. The study's specific

goal is to investigate their experiences and difficulties with the caring industry.

This study's geographic focus, Zamboanga City, offers a regional perspective for

analyzing caregivers' opinions inside this particular community.

In-depth interviews with a purposive sample of at least five to six

caregivers who are presently working in Zamboanga City are the main

methodology used in this study. The researchers hope to obtain a detailed

picture of the varied viewpoints, experiences, and difficulties encountered by

marginalized caregivers within the specified geographic area through these

interviews.

Although the aim of this study is to provide significant insights into the

perspectives of caregivers who are marginalized, it is important to recognize that

the study has several limitations. First off, the five to six caregivers in the sample

size may not be all-inclusive or represent the whole range of experiences among

the larger group of marginalized caregivers in Zamboanga City.

The geographical limitations of the study to Zamboanga City may restrict

the applicability of the findings to other areas or urban-rural situations. The

distinct socio-cultural and economic elements present in Zamboanga City may

have an impact on caregiver experiences that is distinct from that of other places.

Moreover, the study mostly uses qualitative data from interviews, which

could provide deep insights into unique experiences but might not present a

thorough quantitative summary of opinions across the board for marginalized

caregivers.

In spite of these constraints, the study aims to provide a significant

investigation into the perspectives of marginalized caregivers in Zamboanga City,

consequently advancing knowledge of their career path in the local environment.

Future research and projects aiming at enhancing the support networks and

inclusivity for caregivers from underrepresented backgrounds may benefit from

the findings.
Significance of the Study

The conduct of this study would be of great contribution to the knowledge

regarding students' achievements. The results of this study could be highly

significant and beneficial specifically to the following:

School Administrators and Educators/Teachers

The study's conclusions provide educators and school administrators with

useful information that will help them design and enhance future caregivers'

training programs. By taking into account the diverse experiences of

marginalized caregivers, courses can be improved and students prepared to

handle the challenges of the profession in a more inclusive way.

Students

For students, particularly those in the fields of sociology, healthcare, and

social sciences, this study provides a real-world understanding of the challenges

faced by marginalized caregivers. It serves as a valuable resource for academic

exploration, offering insights that can inform research projects, class discussions,

and student initiatives focused on promoting inclusivity and understanding within

the caregiving profession.

Public Awareness Campaigns

The study's insights can be integrated into public awareness campaigns

aimed at dispelling stereotypes and promoting a more accurate understanding of

caregivers. Educational materials developed based on the research can be

distributed within schools, communities, and online platforms to raise awareness

among the general public.
