Theoretical background
By immersing themselves in real work environments, students have the chance to apply
theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to practical situations. This practical immersion
enables the development of essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-
solving, and adaptability. working students suggests that students who work while attending
college are constantly searching for meaningful work and meaning in their work. Experiential
learning is a constructivist learning theory defined as 'learning by doing'. The learner is an active
participant in the educational process, and learning is achieved through a continuous cycle of
inquiry, reflection, analysis and synthesis (Bartle, 2015 (PDF, 803.8 KB))

The goal of work immersion is to develop the competencies, work ethic, and values
relevant to pursuing further education or joining the workforce. The implementation of
work immersion programs in the Philippines has faced challenges, such as the
insufficiency of documents to establish its extent of implementation. Work immersion is
a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum (SHS) and refers to the part of that

12 students will undergo to expose them to the actual workplace setting and to enrich
the competencies provided by the school. Work immersion has a positive impact on
students. It increases their awareness, interest, and readiness for college courses. It
also improves their soft skills abilities such as self-management, self-motivation,
decision making, time management, and being responsible. The objective of work
immersion is to expose students to the workplace and allow them to apply their acquired
competencies. The objectives of work immersion are to develop relevant skills, work
