Example of Debate Moderator Text

Good morning/afternoon/night everyone. Welcome to our debate session today. The topic of our
debate is "actively encouraging women to become housewives". This topic is very interesting and
relevant to discuss in our current situation.

We have two teams here who will present their arguments for and against this motion. On my right
side we have the Affirmative Team that will support this motion. They (introducing each speaker by
name and role). On my left we have Team Negative who will be fighting this motion. They
(introducing each speaker by name and role).

The format of our debate rules is as follows: Each speaker has 5 minutes to deliver his or her speech.
The first and last minute of each speech will be protected from interjections or information points
from the opposing team. After all the speakers have finished their speeches, we will have a 10-
minute cross-check session where each team can ask the other team questions. Finally, we will have
a 5 minute closing from each team where they can summarize their main arguments and rebuttals.

Before we get started, I want to remind you of a few rules that we need to follow during this debate.
Please respect your opponents and do not interrupt them while they are talking, except for
information points during unprotected times. Please use polite and appropriate language and avoid
personal attacks or insults. Please also respect the time limit and stop talking when you hear me say
"time" or ring the bell.

and answering questions, starting with the Affirmative Team asking questions to the Negative Team.
