EXAMINATION
Instructions to Candidates:
● This is a final online assessment. You MUST answer the assessment questions on your own
without any assistance from other persons or resources.
● You must contact the lecturer immediately should there be any disruption to the video
conferencing during the final online assessment.
● It is your responsibility to ensure all pages of the answer script are submitted. You will not be
notified for any missing pages or incorrect submission of answer script.
● You must submit your answers within the following time frame allowed for this online
assessment:
o The deadline for the submission of your answers is half an hour from the end time of this
online assessment.
● Penalty WILL BE IMPOSED on students who submit their answers late as follows:
o The final marks of this online assessment will be reduced by 10 marks for answer scripts
that are submitted within 30 minutes after the deadline for the submission of answers for
this online assessment.
o The final marks of this online assessment will be downgraded to zero (0) mark for any
answer scripts that are submitted after one hour from the end time of this online
assessment.
● Extenuating Mitigating Circumstance (EMC) encountered, if any, must be submitted to the
Faculty/Branch/Centre within 48 hours after the date of this online assessment. All EMC
applications must be supported with valid reasons and evidence. The UC EMC Guidelines
apply.
Question 1
Central Bank of XYZ has announced the introduction of Malaysia's new currency series that will be
available in the January 2022. The new banknotes issued are in the denominations of RM30 and
RM60. Therefore, all banks will be affected by the new currency series announced by the central
bank.
ABC bank is the largest banks in Malaysia. It has 200 branches. ABC bank provides a variety of
banking services to their customers. Currently, due to the new direction from central bank, there are
some problems and challenges faced by ABC such as dispensing and depositing new notes by
Automated Teller Machine (ATM)/Cash Deposit Machine (CDM).
At the same time, IT manager in ABC bank has suggested to top management regarding the linkage of
debit card and Touch ‘n Go services. With this, customers are able to use their debit card to perform
cashless payment. Furthermore, they found out that their competitors are also offering such services to
provide more convenience to their customers.
In preliminary investigation, Mr. John, a systems analyst from ABC’s IT department has been
assigned to carry out the system analysis activity. The objectives of this system are to meet the new
requirements from central bank and also provide convenience to their customers using debit card for
payment. In addition, Miss Michelle, the head of system users’ department hopes that this new system
feature will be able to generate some reports to hasten her decision-making process.
NOTE: Based on the above case study to answer all the questions accordingly.
c) Illustrate ONE (1) possible technical issue, ONE (1) possible social issue and ONE (1) possible
economic issue which must be considered for the new system implementation. (9 marks)
d) Explain ONE (1) possible tangible benefit and ONE (1) possible intangible benefit of the new
system. (4 marks)

In the system analysis stage, Mr John is decided to use prototyping techniques for requirements
gathering.
a) Do you agree prototyping technique is a suitable fact gathering method to be used by Mr John?

b) The following is the brief process of cashless payment using debit card:
When a customer uses his/her debit card to make cashless payment through TnG services at
point of sales terminal, he/she is required to insert the debit card and select TnG payment
option. The system will verify the debit card details and check the TnG balance from the
customer’s file. The payment is accepted when there is sufficient fund in TnG balance. The
payment details will be stored into payment file and TnG balance will be deducted from
customer file. After payment is done, the system will generate an e-receipt for the customer.
c) During design stage, Ms Isa has been assigned to design the Deposit user interface module for
the front desk system which to be installed and located at all the banking hall. Suggest and
describe any THREE (3) suitable types of validation check for input data fields of Deposit user
interface. (6 marks)

b) Recommend TWO (2) appropriate database design tables to record the TnG payment with debit
card. For each table, suggest a table name and FOUR (4) fields using the following table format

c) Discuss the purpose of testing. Suggest ONE (1) suitable testing method with example to test on
the performance of the new cashless payment system for the ATM/CDM. (2 + 5 marks)
d) Documentation serves as guides for project team to understand the project context and
expectations. Documentation sets a direction for project manager and project team to sail through
System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Propose any TWO (2) appropriate documentation for the above case scenario. (6 marks)

Question 4
a) Discuss TWO (2) major activities that must be carried out in the system implementation stage
before performing file and system conversion for the new CDM. (6 marks)
b) After the system has been developed and tested, it is ready for implementation. During
system conversion activity, the management of ABC fears that large system will have high
risks of failure and it may cause problems in banking service for all the 200 branches.
(i) Propose ONE (1) appropriate system conversion activity for the above scenario. Justify
your recommendation. (1 + 4 marks)
(ii) Discuss ONE (1) advantage and ONE (1) disadvantage of the system conversion activity
mentioned in part (i). (6 marks)
c) After a year of implementation, the IT department has suggested to add in new features using
debit card to make payment in 7-11 convenience store, bus and train services. In addition, Mr.
John also requested to modify the system to fix some existing bugs.
Illustrate TWO (2) types of maintenance activity that need to be carried out. Justify your
answers. (2 + 6 marks)
