World tree nut production has followed a rising trend over the past decade. Total production amounts to 5.3 million Total peanut production was greater than 50 million MT for each of the past three seasons. The production figure
metric tons in the 2022/23 season, in line with the previous season but below 2% below the record high of 5.4 M for 2022/23 was estimated at over 50.7 million MT (in-shell basis), 2% lower than the previous season but up
MT in 2020/21. 26% from 2013/14.
Between the 2013/14 and 2022/23 seasons, global tree nut production grew at an average rate of about 250,600 Reflecting the upward trend seen over the past decade, the average annual growth rate between 2013/14 and
MT per year. 2022/23 was 1.4 million MT per year.
(With the exception of pistachios, which are reported on an in-shell basis, tree nut production amounts are expressed
on a kernel basis throughout this report.)

Over the last decade, tree nut production has been concentrated mostly in high- and middle-income 1,250,000
economies, which have shown an average growth rate of 148,725 and 115,362 metric tons per year, 1,000,000
respectively. Peanuts were mainly produced in middle-income countries, with an average annual growth 750,000
rate of 625,188 MT between 2013/14 and 2021/22. Over the past decade, dried fruits were mostly 500,000
produced in middle- and high-income economies. While production tended to grow in middle-income
250,000
countries (by 56,982 MT/year, on average), it remained steady in high-income countries.

The supply value of tree nuts and dried fruits is obtained by multiplying production by the monthly unitary price averaged annually (customs paid upon arrival in Europe). The overall tree nut supply value has increased at a consistent
rate of $1.14 billion per year over the past decade, reaching $36 billion in 2022/23. The total value of the dried fruit supply was $11 billion in 2022/23, with an average annual growth rate of $0.3 billion over the previous decade.
The largest increases in tree nut supply values were seen in macadamias, cashews and walnuts, while the most consistent increases in dried fruits were seen in dried cranberries and table dates. 13
