"Summary"
“Summary of Matilda"
Matilda Wormwood is a highly intelligent
and precocious child with neglectful and
abusive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood.
Her parents are obsessed with their own lives
and interests, and they constantly belittle
Matilda for her love of reading and learning.
Despite her difficult home life, Matilda finds
solace in books and educates herself by
reading extensively from a young age.
13
At the age of five-and-a-half, Matilda starts school at
Crunchem Hall, a gloomy and oppressive institution run
by the tyrannical headmistress, Miss Agatha Trunchbull.
Miss Trunchbull is known for her harsh punishments
and mistreatment of the
students, and Matilda is
determined to stand up
against her injustices.
14
Matilda quickly befriends her kind-hearted teacher, Miss
Jennifer Honey, who recognizes her intelligence and
encourages her to develop her talents. Miss Honey also
reveals to Matilda that she had a traumatic childhood,
raised by her cruel aunt, Miss Trunchbull, after the
mysterious death of her parents.
As Matilda spends more time at school, she discovers
that she possesses telekinetic powers, which allow her to
move objects with her mind.
15
She uses her powers to play
pranks on her parents and
others, seeking revenge for
their mistreatment of her and
her classmates. Despite her
mischievous actions,
Matilda's powers also help
her friends, including her
classmate Lavender, and her
teacher, Miss Honey.
16
Matilda's pranks catch the attention of Miss Trunchbull,
who becomes suspicious and begins to target Matilda.
However, Matilda remains determined to expose Miss
Trunchbull's cruelty and bring justice to the school. She
hatches a plan with Miss Honey to retrieve evidence of
Miss Trunchbull's past wrongdoings, including her
mistreatment of Miss Honey as a child.
With her telekinetic powers and clever planning, Matilda
executes her plan during a school assembly,
17
using her powers to make objects move and create the
illusion of a ghost. Miss Trunchbull is terrified and runs
away, never to return, and
Miss Honey isrevealed
as the rightful owner of her
family's estate.
In the aftermath,
Matilda's parents
decide to.
18
leave the country to avoid the authorities, and Miss
Honey becomes Matilda's legal guardian. Matilda finally
finds a loving home with Miss Honey, where she is
appreciated for her Intelligence and talents. The story
ends on a positive note, with Matilda continuing her love
for reading and learning, and Miss Honey nurturing her
growth and education. Matilda's parents regret their
mistreatment of her and attempt to make amends, and
Matilda looks forward to a brighter future with her new
family.

"Setting Analysis:
The World of Matilda"
"Setting Analysis: The World of Matilda"
"The setting of Matilda plays a significant role in the story,
shaping the experiences and actions of the characters. The
book is primarily set in Matilda's home, a rundown house with
neglectful parents, and her school, Crunchem Hall Primary
School, run by the tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchbull.
These settings create a sense of oppression and injustice that
Matilda must overcome. The library, where Matilda finds
solace in books, serves as a symbol of escape and
empowerment.
The contrasting settings of Matilda's home, school, and the
library contribute to the overall atmosphere and tone of the
story, highlighting the stark differences between the oppressive
and empowering aspects of Matilda's world."
