ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT
on
PEDAGOGICAL UPSKILLING OF ASATIDZ IN TEACHING ALIVE

I. RATIONALE

The education industry is booming, and we have witnessed a profound change in

the field of education. Rapid development and skill enhancement for teachers are the
need of the hour. Chalkboards have transformed into whiteboards and PowerPoint
presentations. Access to new tools and technology has made education convenient
across all platforms.

Hence, students have a plethora of materials at the tips of their fingers. To provide
quality education, students require a guide, and this is where the professional teacher
comes into the picture.

Teaching is an evolving skill because a good teacher needs to keep upskilling

herself to be able to engage the students productively in the class and ensure the
intended outcome for our learners.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted education, creating a huge learning gap
between students and many teachers. Teachers must adopt the latest technology and
methods to teach online. It was difficult for them to connect with each student
emotionally online and understand their problems.

According to the Institute for Educational Research, Hanoi National University of

Education, Vietnam, one of the most critical questions about the quality of training
teachers is the pedagogical knowledge and skills of pre-service teachers when they
graduate (Texler, 2018). Significant literature has discussed the role of theory and
practice in teacher education. Pedagogical skills impact teachers’ futures and
educational quality much more than pedagogical knowledge (Thursby, 2018). If a teacher
is excellent at professional knowledge but lacks pedagogical skills, it is hard to become a
good teacher (Castro et al., 2019). Teachers’ quality, effectiveness, and impact in high
schools depend on pedagogical skills in training future teachers (Podolsky et al., 2019).

The SDO Cotabato conducted a 3-day live-in training on the pedagogical

upskilling of asatidz in teaching ALIVE at FCG Catering Services & Refreshment Parlor
on July 11–13, 2022.

The pedagogical upskilling of Asatidz in teaching ALIVE learners was

indeed an emerging need for each one of them, especially now that education is
just coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Their way of teaching was stagnant
and not updated. Therefore, it is a necessity that this training be conducted for
them to be upskilled and updated in terms of the new trends and updates on the
different strategies in teaching.

V. RECOMMENDATION

After the 3-day training, the asatidz were upskilled and updated on the
new trends or platforms in teaching. It was discussed and therefore agreed that
all their acquired learnings will be used or applied in their teaching in the coming
school year 2022-2023.
