Industry Analysis

The fishing industry extends beyond the coastal communities which is also vital to the retail and
manufacturing industry of fishing tools and supplies and the overall economy. It has drive the
economic activity, not only through the sale of fish and other seafoods but also manufacturing
and retail of boats, fishing tools and equipments, and other fishing supplies. As the population of
the Philippines continues to grow, the demand for basic commodities also increased. According
to the FAO Fisheries & Aquaculture, in 2012, the Philippines ranked among the major fish
producing countries in the world with a total production of 3.1 million tonnes of fish,
crustaceans, mollusks and other aquatic animals. Aquaculture contributed 790 900 tonnes, or
25.4 percent, to the total fish production.The demand for fish in both consumption and other uses
had increase correspondingly. In 2017, the Philippines had a population of about 103 million,
and mean per capita consumption of fish and fishery products of 40 kg/year or 109 grams/day
with the percent of fish and fishery products intake to the total intake at 12.8%, and in 2015, the
fishing industry contributed 1.5% and 1.7% at current and constant prices, respectively, to the
country’s gross domestic products (GDP) with the fisheries sector providing employment to over
1.6 million people, 85% of whom were from the municipal fisheries and 1% from commercial
fisheries, while the aquaculture sector employed 14% (Lamarca, 2017). As the Philippines has 7
641 islands and has the worlds longest continuous coast lines mamy of the households from
coastal areas had made fishing as their source of livelihood thus, creating an opportunity for
businesses like fishing tools and supply manufacturer and retailers.

SeaSun Trading is a retailing business of fishing tools. The main product of the business is
fishing net, hook and sinker. One of the major advantages of SeaSun trading was their location
Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, as fishing is one of the major industries of the Municipality of
Hinigaran, providing a decent means of livelihood to thousands of residents from fishermen to
fish dealers hence it creates a growth opportunity for the business.

the direct competitor of SeaSun Trading because both of them are selling Fishing tools such as
fishing net, hook and sinker. Although, in terms of location, the SeaSun Trading has the
upperhand because it located near the seaside area in Hinigaran while the Jhun-G Enterprises,
Dry Goods and Fishing Supplies, RB Enterprises, Wilcel Trading in on the Market area
