INDIAN CULTURE

What is culture? Culture is an umbrella term that encompasses the social behavior and norms found
in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of
the individual in these groups. Humans acquire culture through the learning processes of
enculturation and socialization which is shown by the diversity of cultures acrosses societies.

India is a country that boasts of rich culture and that has become its identity. Today India stands as a
powerful multicultural society among the other societies in the world. People here follow many
different religions and speak a variety of different languages. Indian culture is everything from
people’s beliefs to their values and rituals. The culture of India comprises festivals, dances music,
food, art, architecture, clothing, languages, etc. also, India is considered as the oldest civilization
where people still follow their old habits of care and humanity. Although people are turning modern,
still the festivals are celebrated per the customs and the same values of respect for elders and care
for all remain embedded in the minds of the people. People from the older generation pass on their
beliefs and values to their children who further pass them on to their upcoming generations and so
the culture of the younger generations is still connected to the older ones. Our ethic culture always
teaches children to respect elders, behave well with all, care for the helpless and help the poor and
needy. There is a great culture in our country of welcoming guests like gods, that is why we have a
famous saying that goes like “Atithi Devo Bhava” that means guests are a form of god and they
should always be treated like one. So the basic roots in our country are spiritual practices and
humanity. Indian culture is the most seasoned culture on the planet. It incorporates modern western
styles and Indian ethnic styles very elegantly. Indian culture has unlimited characteristics which
cannot be explained in words. In Indian culture, accentuation is on doing karma. India is a nation
that celebrates and fairs and is well known for many festivals like Holi (festival of colors), Deepawali
(festival of lights), Janmashtami (birth of Lord Krishna), etc. because a lot of festivals are celebrated
here that it seems as if every day is commended. A lot of different varieties of food can be seen in
different parts of India having their unique taste and finesse. Also, a variety of different styles of
architecture can be seen throughout the country from the famous murals of the Mughal empire to
the Buddhist domes and beautiful Rajput Havelis.

In the end, it can be observed that Indian culture has never been rigid and is modern and acceptable
due to its flexibility and vastness. And I think that it’s safe to say that Indian culture has a special
characteristic of tolerance and uniqueness which is never found in any culture.
