Good Afternoon dignitaries, delegates and participants.

I Savyasachi Behl will be proceeding with


Session no. 7 as well which will be consisting of Tax Frauds and its Remedies.

Tax fraud involves the deliberate misrepresentation or omission of data on a tax return. There are many
methods that people use in tax fraud in India ranging from false tax returns to smuggling fake
documents and bribery. It includes both avoidance and reduction in the tax return. Its common means
include late filing, income concealing, avoiding auditing etc. It is a serious offence and it is regulated
under Chapter XXII of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

To enlighten us more about the topic the speakers of the session will be Shri Mukesh Patel, Chairman of
International Tax and Investment consultants & Shri Nilabhra Dasgupta, Additional Director of
Investigation, Income Tax, Gujrat.

Shri Mukesh Patel is an eminent advocate and international tax expert. Since 1977 he has actively
pursued analysis of Union Budgets. He is the founder of Practical Tax Planning which provides practical
tips on tax and investment. He was also appointed by the Government of India as a member of the
Justice Easwar Committee for simplification of the Income Tax Act and as an expert on the six-member
task force to draft new Income Tax Law.

Shri Nilabhra Dasgupta is an IRS Officer of the 2008 batch. With 12 years in the field, he has held various
operational and administrative posts such as Deputy Commissioner of the largest Corporate Assessment
charges both in Gujarat as well as West Bengal. His area of expertise is financial fraud, tax evasion and
anti-money laundering investigations. He is currently posted as the Additional Director (Investigation),
Unit 1, Ahmedabad.

The chair who is presiding over this session is CA Durgesh Pandey.

CA Durgesh Pandey is a certified fraud examiner. He got his PhD in Financial Forensic and Financial
Crime Investigation from NFSU. He is a Managing Partner at DKMS & Associates. He has also been
associated with multiple law enforcement agencies like Enforcement Directorate, Economic offences
Wing, CID and Financial Crime Investigation. He was also part of the expert Study Group with ICAI on the
drafting of Forensic Standards.
