BRIEF INTRODUCTION

18
https://aratlarotayo.wordpress.com/2019/03/12/lawin-at-sisiw/

LAWIN AT SISIW is an invasion game that can be played indoor or outdoor.

This game is a chasing and tagging game wherein, one will act as the hawk,
another one as the hen (or head of the chickens), while the remaining
players become the chicks.

It started with the Lawin’s attempt to buy a chick from the hen. After a
period of bargaining, the lawin finally gets a chick which he took home to
help him search for rice grains for his dinner.

As the lawin fell asleep, the chick returned to the hen. As a result, the angry
lawin tried to find, searched and catch the missing chick. The hen and all
the chickens then prevented the lawin from catching the chick.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Waste Management – refers to the collection, transportation, and disposal
of garbage, sewage and other waste products to minimize its harmful effects
on humans and environments.
There are several methods of waste management that you can practice
in school , at home and in community.

1. Reducing and Reusing – is considered as the most effective way to

reduce waste since it does not create waste.
2. Waste Storage – refers to proper handling of waste which include
separation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable , and using
tight fitting containers in storing hazardous and toxic waste
3. Waste Disposal – refers to different methods of proper disposition
of discarded or waste materials. It can be done by:
a. Composting – natural way of recycling decomposed organic
materials into a rich soil called compost
b. Recycling- processing used or waste materials into new, useful
products
c. Proper disposal of hazardous materials
- Liquid Hazardous waste are often disposed of in
underground injection wells

23
- Solid Hazardous wastes go to landfills, waste piles, and
land treatment units

Wastes are items that are no longer needed. It is used to be in a small

quantities according to the natural cycles. The best way to manage waste is
to avoid producing it. This can be done through waste reduction that the
amount created or even produce. The 3R’s -Reduce, Re-use and recycle
helps to minimize the amount of waste materials that need to be disposed. It
is a temporary storage or embarkment of waste products before they are
collected. Biodegradable should be separated to the Non-Biodegradable and
the toxic wastes are simply labelled for proper disposing. Hazardous and
Hospital waste also properly disposed According to the Republic Act no.
6969 better known as ”Toxic Substance and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste
Control Act 1990” Regulates the storage and Disposing of Hazardous
Materials

Different types of wastes

1. BIODEGRADABLE WASTE - are those that naturally breakdown
in a reasonable amount of time by the action of decomposers and
microorganisms
2. NON-BIODEGRADABLE WASTES - are those that cannot be
broken down into their base compound by microorganisms in a
reasonable amount of time.
3. HAZARDOUS WASTE – are type of waste that are dangerous or
potentially harmful for the health of the people and the
environment
