Seminar one: Introduction to Intellectual Property Law
In seminar one I will cover the following topics: (1) Introduction to Intellectual Property Law and a general discussion of the forms of IP law (copyright, patents, trade secrets, trademarks). Within this discussion there will be reference to cases that expand on requirements for both eligibility and infringement. The important sections of the cases will be provided in the class notes. (2) The importance of Intellectual Property Law from the perspective of researchers.
Seminar 2: Issues in Intellectual Property Law particular to South Africa
In seminar two I will cover the following topics: (1) A discussion of the various IP statutes in the country (Patents Act, Copyright Act, IPR Act, exchange control regulations etc) (2) A discussion of the issues surrounding the IP regime in the country (including challenges and things to remember as researchers)
