Microsoft paint is very simple to use, It has every tool needed for graphics editing, It has all the colours
you need to edit a picture, It has different styles of writing, It comes free with all versions of Windows.
Microsoft Paint is a graphics creation program, It can be used for basic drawing and shape manipulation,
It is used for pasting the screenshots from other applications and It is used for changing images from one format
to another.

Lesson 1: Microsoft Paint


WHAT IS MICROSOFT PAINT?

Microsoft Paint, also known as Paint or MS Paint, is a simple program that allows users
to create basic graphic art on a computer.

Paint has been included with every version of Microsoft Windows since its inception.
Paint provides basic functionality for drawing and painting in color or black and white,
and shaped stencils and cured line tools to create geometrical designs.

Why is Microsoft Paint included with Windows?

Microsoft Paint also allows users to open other picture files. For example, using the latest version of Microsoft
Paint, you can create, open, view, and edit .bmp, .dib, .jpg, .gif, .tiff, .png, and .ico files. Without Microsoft Paint,
you would need to install an image viewer to open images on your computer.

Is Microsoft Paint available on other platforms?

While there are other paint programs designed for other operating systems (e.g., Tux Paint), Microsoft Paint is
only available for Microsoft Windows. Microsoft Paint is not available for Android, iOS, Chrome OS, Linux, macOS,
or other operating systems.

A. STARTING MICROSOFT PAINT

MS-Paint is a part of windows. To open paint do the following steps:

1. Click "Office" button and select All Apps option from the start menu list.
2. Click "Windows Accessories" folder from the All-Apps list.
3. Click MS-Paint option which is listed under the windows Accessories folder or,
4. To open MS-Paint, type Paint in the search box on the task bar and then select paint from the list of result.
Both will launch MS-Paint application window with the file name 'Untitled - Paint' as shown in the picture above.

File Tab: It consist of View Tab: It consist of tools like zoom in, zoom out, full
options like open and screen, status bar, rulers etc.

Home Tab: It consists of tools like brushes, shapes, colour, image erasers, fill tool, pick color, magnifier, text

B. PARTS OF MICROSOFT PAINT – HOME BUTTONS

Parts Description
The "Select" tools look like a star or rectangle outlined with hashed lines. The star
shape is the "Free-Form Select" tool that allows you to select part of a picture that
is any shape. The button with the image of a rectangle lets you select a
rectangular area within an image

Eraser tool allows you to erase small areas of the image by dragging the mouse
pointer over the part you wish to eliminate.

The "Fill Tool" looks like a jar that has paint spilling out of it. When you select an
area of your image with the left mouse button, the foreground color will fill with a
color. When you select an area of your image with the right mouse button, the
background of the image will fill with a color.

The button with the image of an eyedropper is the "Color Picker" tool. This allows
you select an object whose color you want to copy and use the color elsewhere in
the image.

Next to the "Pick Color" button is the "Magnifier" button, which looks like a
magnifying glass. Selecting this tool will allow you to zoom in an out of an image.

The button with an image of a pencil in it is the "Free-Form Line" tool. It allows you
to draw lines by clicking and dragging your computer mouse.

The “Brush tool” is used to brush a thick line on your image with different brush
shapes.

The "Text" tool is next to the image of the paint can and has the letter "A" on it. Use
this to type text directly onto your picture.
Text
The "Line" button has the image of a diagonal line in it. Use this tool to draw straight
lines in your picture. To draw a curve, click on the button with the image of a curvy
line in it.

Line and Curve The "Curve" tool allows you to draw a line with one or two arcs in it.

The "Polygon" tool allows you to make different preset polygons including dialog
box. You can create a circle, oval, triangle, square and many other shapes.

This tool is where you will choose your paint color.

Exercise 2. Let’s Create!

In a span of 30 minutes, make a simple digital art design using the MS Paint Application. Use the different buttons
to make your artwork more attractive. Save your output. Send it to your teacher via messenger or you may print it
if it’s not possible to send it online.
