The Importance of Work
Children can learn a lot from doing household chores. Carrying out
chores help children to learn about they need in order to take care of themselves,
the home, and the family. They learn skills they can use later in life through chores
like preparing meals, doing laundry work and cleaning up.
Carrying chores also gives children the experience of relationship skills, like
communicating clearly and working as a team. When children contribute to family
life, it helps them to feel competent and responsible. Even when they do not enjoy
the chores, when they keep doing it, they get the feeling of satisfaction that comes
from completing a task.
However excessive work for children can hinder their full development.
Excessive hours of work can hinder attendance of and good performance at school.
This turns into child labour. The law forbids child labour.
