Directions: Please provide responses to the two sections below. The expectation is that each response

Section 1: Leadership and Collaboration Experience

Briefly describe an instance where you were required to lead and motivate a team of professionals to
collaborate. It does not need to be in a health care setting. If you have not lead a team of professionals
before, use a different example.
Next, analyze your approach to the challenge using specific examples. It is not important whether or not
your efforts were successful. What is important is the approach you take to appraising your leadership
and collaboration decisions and actions. Do the following:
1. Analyze your leadership of the project. Consider the following:
o What was the purpose or shared vision of the team?
o The effectiveness of your leadership approach and style. Did you get “buy in” from
stakeholders?
o Decision making processes and outcomes? What were your good decisions? What would
you have done differently?
o How did you communication your vision, values, decisions, information, et cetera?
2. Analyze your approach to fostering collaboration and motivation among stakeholders. Consider:
o How well you facilitated member or participant collaboration and engagement with one
another. Did participants communicate effectively?
o Actions you took to motivate people to realize your vision or tactics. Did the team or
participants feel motivated and energized by you? Why or why not?

Question 1

One example of a situation where I was required to lead and motivate a team of

professionals to collaborate was during a project at my previous job. The purpose of the team

was to develop and launch a new product for the company. The shared vision of the team was to

4
create a product that would be innovative and competitive in the market, in order to increase the

company's revenue and market share.

My leadership approach for this project was to be a facilitator and a coach for the team

members. I made sure to clearly communicate the vision and goals of the project to the team, and

to ensure that everyone understood their roles and responsibilities. I also made sure to keep

everyone informed of the progress of the project, and to provide feedback and support as needed.

To foster collaboration and motivation among stakeholders, I made sure to create an environment

where everyone felt comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions (Zhang et al., 2019). I also

made sure to recognize and reward the contributions of each team member, and to provide

opportunities for team members to learn and grow.

One effective decision I made was to bring in a consultant to help the team with the

product development process. This helped to bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the team,

and helped to increase the team's motivation and engagement. However, one decision that I

would have done differently was to involve more stakeholders in the decision-making process.

This would have helped to ensure that more perspectives and ideas were taken into account, and

would have helped to increase the buy-in and engagement of stakeholders (Zhang et al., 2019).

In terms of communication, I made sure to use a variety of methods to ensure that everyone was

informed and engaged. This included regular team meetings, email updates, and one-on-one

meetings with team members.

Question 2

Fostering collaboration and motivation among stakeholders, my approach was to create

an environment where everyone felt comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions. I facilitated

5
member collaboration and engagement by regularly holding team meetings where everyone

could share their thoughts and opinions (Kim et al., 2021). I also made sure to provide

opportunities for team members to work together on tasks and projects, which helped to promote

collaboration and engagement.

In terms of communication, I made sure that everyone on the team was informed and

engaged. This included regular team meetings, email updates, and one-on-one meetings with

team members. I also made sure to encourage open and transparent communication among team

members, so that everyone felt comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions. To motivate the

team, I made sure to recognize and reward the contributions of each team member. I also

provided opportunities for team members to learn and grow, which helped to increase their

motivation and engagement (Kim et al., 2021). Additionally, I made sure to provide regular

feedback and support to the team, which helped to keep them motivated and on track.

Finally, I believe that my approach to fostering collaboration and motivation among

stakeholders was effective. The team members communicated effectively and felt motivated and

energized by me. However, there may have been ways to improve my approach, such as

involving more stakeholders in the decision-making process and providing more opportunities

for team members to take on leadership roles.

Section 2: Ethics Experience
Briefly describe an ethical dilemma that that demonstrates your application of ethical principles in the
health care setting. Next, analyze your response or actions (even if there were none) to the event against
one of the reference points below. Were your inactions or choices supported by the chosen framework?
Be specific and include two references citing one or more of the following.
 Any workplace code of ethics (consider choosing one from a place you work or have worked).
 The professional code of ethics for your profession.

Response

An ethical dilemma that demonstrates my application of ethical principles in the health

care setting is when a patient's family requested for withholding of life-sustaining treatments for

their loved one who is in a permanent vegetative state. The patient had no advanced directive and

the medical team was uncertain of the patient's wishes.

In this situation, I would analyze my response or actions using the American College of

Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Code of Ethics. Specifically, I would refer to principle number

five which states that "health care executives shall respect the rights of patients and families to

make decisions about their medical care, including the right to accept or refuse medical

treatment, and to be informed about their medical condition and treatment options."

In this case, my actions would be to respect the family's request and to have an open and honest

conversation with them about the patient's condition and the potential outcomes of withholding

8
life-sustaining treatments. I would also ensure that the family's decision is in line with the

patient's best interest and not motivated by any extraneous factors.

Additionally, I would also consult the principle number four of ACHE Code of Ethics

which states that "health care executives shall ensure that patients receive care that is

compassionate, appropriate, and responsive to their needs." And ensure that the patient's comfort

and dignity are maintained throughout the process (Levitt, 2014). My actions would be supported

by the ACHE Code of Ethics as they align with the principles of respecting the patient's and

family's autonomy and ensuring the provision of appropriate and responsive care.
