Gen z is known to be likely suffering from more boredom, anxiety, and depression
primarily compared to the prior generations. According to Bethune and Sophie, research states
that only 45 percent of the generation z individuals declare themselves to be reasonable or more
likely to be in the best state of mental health. This is likely 11 percent less than the prior
generations. The study further argues that 91 percent of the generation z declared that they
experienced emotional or physical signs or symptoms as a result of mental illness and stress in
The ability of generation z being connected to the information from around the world is
also posing a mental health concern. Regretfully, much of information about the mass shootings,
violence, harassments in terms of sex and immigration issues are also related to the stress factors,
and thus a result of depression or lack of motivation among the youth. Bethune and Sophie
further argues that technology not only has a way of updating on the world events but also a way
of staying in contact with close ones and thus getting updated (21). However much this may
seem to be positive, the misuse or overuse of the social media might lead the young ones down
to a figure of self-comparison that in turn contribute to the poor mental health state, with the
social media regarded as the main culprit in the rise of the mental health crisis.

are greatly sacrificing their health. A lack of sleep can cause an escalated increase in the risks of
injuries, terminal illnesses, the abuse of various forms of substances, and lately, mental health
complications. The body needs sleep and the lack of it; the body fails to perform to its full
Financial status and relative factors of work are tailored to be the major stressors among

Generation z individuals are experiencing a worsened state of mental illness due to the
isolation following different directives as a result of the corona virus pandemic. The individuals
are said to have lost the contacts to their respective peers as a result of the isolation factor.
Additionally, the haste on the school closures and the emotional impacts of the pandemic are
common sources of stress, anxiety, frustration and loneliness. The mandate to at least ensure
their parents stay indoors and safe are also posing worries as their parents are at higher risks of
Fortunately, the millennials revolutionized the way mental illness was handled, diagnosed
and treated. They openly, and avidly discussed about the mental health and form of stigma
reduction and in turn, called for improved services. However, more attention is realized to
childhood and adolescent mental health with the kids being paid more attention. Despite this,

social isolation, overprotection from the parents, the constant levels of scrutiny and the constant
exposure to massive shock of news are making the generation z redundant to basically stepping
out of the depression box together with the anxiety in the children and the teens still hits the
