PARTS OF SPEECH

•Most of the words that are used to make sentences can be


sorted into eight classifications called parts of speech:
noun, verb, pronoun, adverb, adjective, preposition,
interjection, conjunction. Some words can be more than one
part of speech depending on their position or use in a
sentence.
PERSONAL PRONOUNS
• A pronoun is a word used as a substitute for a noun.
Examples :
1. She checked the book out of the school library.
She - used in place of the name of the individual-pronoun(PN)
2. I created a personal website to use for job searches.

3. They suggested I submit a portfolio to prospective employers.

A demonstrative pronoun is a pronoun that represents a noun and expresses its
position as near or far (including in time). The demonstrative pronouns are
"this," "that," "these," and "those.“
Structure sentence: Demons. Pronoun + verb + article + subject.

3. This is a bicycle.

NOUNS
A noun is a word that refers to a thing, a person, an animal, a place, a
quality, or an idea.

What is a count noun? Count nouns can be separated into individual units and
counted. They usually have both a singular and a plural form.
Examples:
1. one phone, two phones
2. one dog, two dogs
However, a few countable nouns only have a plural form in English.
Examples:
1. pants
2. jeans
What is a noncount noun? Noncount (or uncountable) nouns exist as masses or
abstract quantities that cannot be counted. They have no plural form.
Examples:

1. furniture
2. sugar
3. water

My name is Robert Smith. I am eighteen years old. My sister is eight years old. I
have a dog that is a golden retriever. His name is Tiger, and he is our only pet. I walk to
school every day because my school is only three blocks away. It is located on Jones
Street. Its address is 785 Jones Street. My address is 416 Meadow Avenue.
I live in a city that is beautiful and fascinating. We have many trees throughout the
city and a big lake. I have two older sisters, but I am my dad’s only son. My father is
very proud of me. My mother is very athletic and intelligent. My father is tall and is a
successful businessman. They are handsome and attractive couple. We love to do things
together. We are a very happy family.
