The Central Public Works Department of India (Hindi: लोक निर्माण विभाग),commonly referred
to as the CPWD, is a premier Central Government authority in charge of public sector
works. The Central Public Works Department, under the Ministry of Urban Development
now MOHUA (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs), deals with buildings, roads,
bridges, flyovers, complicated structures like stadiums, auditoriums, laboratories,
bunkers, border fencing, border roads (hill roads), etc. CPWD came into existence in
July 1854 when Lord Dalhousie established a central agency for execution of public
works and set up Ajmer Provincial Division. It has now grown into a comprehensive
construction management department, which provides services from project conception
to completion, and maintenance management.
It is headed by the Director General (DG) who is also the Principal Technical Advisor to
the Government of India. The regions and sub-regions are headed by Special DGs and
Additional DGs respectively, while the zones in all state capitals (except a few) are
headed by Chief Engineers. Nowadays, a new post of Chief Project Manager (CPM)
has been created to head major prestigious projects of CPWD. CPMs are equivalent to
the rank of Chief Engineers in CPWD. With country wide presence, the strength of
CPWD is its ability to undertake construction of Complex Projects even in difficult
terrains and maintenance in post construction stage.

SUBSTATION
Components of substation
Transformers (1000kv)
Used to convert high voltage to low voltage (Step-Down)
Air circuit breaker is a circuit breaker for the purpose of protecting low voltage
circuit, mainly for energizing and cutting off high current. It is used as the master of
a factory and building, and as a main circuit breaker of a ship, and it is possible to
attach various accessories according to the purpose
The air brake principle of the air breaker circuit arc is used in DC circuits and AC circuits
up to 12KV. The air circuit breakers have high resistance power that helps in increasing
the resistance of the arc by splitting, cooling and lengthening
EARTHING WORK
Body Earthing
Both type of Earthing (Plate and Road ) are used on the Site
EARTING OF TRANSFORMER
2. 50kg boronite and macronite powder are used instead of coal and salt mixture.
Electrical Wiring is a process of connecting cables and wires to the related devices
such as fuse, switches, sockets, lights, fans etc to the main distribution board is a
specific structure to the utility pole for continues power supply
Electricity travels from the service panel to home appliances through the hot
conductor, and returns the current to the main service panel through the neutral
conductor. A third or “grounding” wire is also connected to all outlets and metal boxes
in your home.
> The size of Main Scrurfuig conductor (benreen Forth Electrode <and the main
earthing
> Terminal / E<rth bus, cs the case McCray be) should be as per contract (clause
8.2.2.01 specializations).
> Check the provision and terminal rations of Earth Bus. (Clause 8.4.3 of
Specializations).
> Check size of loop earthing wire Aluminium 4 sq.mm. (2'24 mm dia)/coPPer 2 mm
> dicr (minimum) Iron DB. AII 3d pins of sockets, all metallic switch boxes and lcs
> No joints in this protective conductor in through runs: And no bunching of connections
crt terminations should be allowed.
2. The number written near the switch board and power points indicates circuit number.
For detail of circuits refer distribution board charts.
3. The size of wires from switch board to different light and fan points shall be 1.5
sq.m.m
4. For secondary power point the circuit wire shall be looped from first power point by
2X4 sq.m.m
5. The size of submain conduit from electrical shaft to each shop DB shall be 25/32 θ(as
mention in DB schedule).
A. Ms conduit
7. RG -6 T.V. coaxial wire shall be laid from L.V. shaft / JB to each T.V. outlet
separately.
9. Flexible conduit shall be used at expansion joints for electrical & L.V. wires.
10. Parking / Corridor / Staircase lights shall be directly controlled from MCB - DB
through 2x1.5 sq.m.m wires as shown in drawings.
11. No two dissimilar phase circuit / wire shall run together through same conduit.
13. Wiring shall be carried out as per colour code I.e. R, Y, B phases and black- neutral
and green- earth.
14. The position mentioned in legend is bottom of switch board/ outlets.
15. The openings inside Electrical, LV & Fire shaft should be sealed at each floor.
16. Conduit drop should be precisely co-ordinated with RCC as per dimensions given in
the drawing.
17. In case of any discrepancy in the drawing, the same may be brought to the notice of
electrical consultant for approval before execution.
18. The Earth Continuity wire has t be laid for all electrical outlets / sockets / light / fan
points. Size of earth wire shall be as follows:-
