Project Overview

Current state – UK Office


 1500 employees
 12 floors building (in particular location mentioned- UK Office)
 2 canteens floors
 Seating capacity -150 per floor

Problem breakdown
 Preferred Lunch time = 12pm – 1pm (60 min)
 Time Break down
o 30-35 mins – Queue time/waiting time
o 10-15 mins – Actual eating time
o 10 mins – transit time (to reach & come back from canteen)

Observations
 Employee Complaint – Most of the time employees don’t get the

food they want.


 Canteen problem – throws away significant amount of food if not
sold in time.
 Employee request – To create an online system to order meals, and
delivered in desired timeslot.

Business Objective & Success Criteria

 Business Objective 1:
Reduce canteen food wastage by a minimum of 30% within 6 months
following first release.

Scale: Value of food thrown away each month by examining the


canteen inventory
Previous - 25% wasted
Must plan for: Less than 15%

 Business Objective 2:
Reduce canteen operating costs by 15% within 12 months, following
initial release.

 Business Objective 3:
Increase average effective work time by 30 minutes per employee per
day, within 3 months.

 Business Objective 4:
By making the ordering process automated and by delivering the food
to the user's workstation, the canteen will be able to operate with
lesser manpower.

Business Analysis Core Concepts


Need To have an online canteen ordering system which can reduce the
food wastage, operating costs, manpower and increase
employee‘s work time.
Change To automate the current canteen system to an online
meal ordering system.
Solution Build an online canteen ordering system which will lead to
increase in productivity and decrease in wastage
Context To change canteen system which will help company to cater 1500
employees during the lunch time (12-1pm).
Create an online ordering system in java, which will be easy to
maintain and upgrade in future.
Value Low operational cost and less wastage of food
Saves manpower and employee ‘s time so increased efficiency
No rush in the canteen during lunch time

Scope - Context Diagram

Main Feature – To be developed

o Employee Login on the system


o Canteen manager Updates and displays list of the daily menu
o Users can select dishes and create order; they should be able to edit the
items before check out
o User will not be able to edit the order after the confirmation of the order
on the system
o The canteen manager views the orders and assign to Chef for the
preparation
o Request delivery by canteen manger to employee workstation
o After delivering the lunch the delivery boy shall close the order online
o Users must be able to submit the feedback

o The payroll system shall calculate the total number of dishes ordered by
each employee.
o The payroll system shall deduct money from the employee’s salary.
