FS 2 5
Environment: An
Overview

To have a meaningful and successful accomplishment in this FS episode, be

sure to read through the whole episode before participating and assisting in your FS
2 Resource Teacher’s class. Note all the information you will need in tasks you will
need to do before working on this episode.
Target Your Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of this episode, I must be able to revisit the concept of
learning environment in the context of the current teaching and learning
situation.
Clarify Your Task
Overview of the Learning Environment
A learning environment, traditionally called the classroom, is a space in a
school that supports student learning. It is a self-contained area where teacher
teaches and children learn. In the classroom are chairs or tales for students and a
front table for the teachers. This is a traditional face-to-face classroom. Most often
the students should face the teacher as the chairs are arranged hat way. But as
teaching delivers change to enhance learning, modification in the seating
arrangement evolved ad more opportunity for the learners to move about for
cooperative learning was addressed.
A conducive learning environment should have the following characteristics:
 Flexibility – there is opportunity to have small groups, movable walls.
 Openness – Learning corners/areas which could be shared.
 Accesses to resources – Audio-visual materials are ready and open for
use.
 Physical classroom – Space is clean and safe.
 Psychological atmosphere – It is friendly and accommodating.
The classroom climate nurtures the intellectual, physical, social and
emotional development of the students.
Here are some specific strategies for developing the optimal classroom
climate. You may consider these.
1. Learning environment addresses both physical and psychological needs of
the students for security and order, love and belonging, personal power and
competence, freedom and fun.
2. Create a sense of order. For example, teacher should teach students how to
 Enter the classroom and become immediately engaged in the activity;
 Distribute and collect materials;
 Find out about missed assignments due to absence and how to make
up for them;
 Get the teacher’s attention without disrupting the class and
 Arrange desks, tables quickly and quietly for various purposes.
3. Greet learners as they enter your face-to-face or online classroom.
4. In a healthy and conducive learning environment, everybody belongs and
knows each other.
5. Encourage class building activities like games and tem activities.
6. In a conducive learning environment, success whether small or big is
recognized, and celebrated.

Both approaches, either the traditional face-to-face or online, lead to positive

result but in different ways, so usually in practice both approaches are combined

Participate and Assist

What will you do to assist your mentor in setting up a conducive learning
environment in the following conditions:
1. Bulletin Board Display
Answer: I will make sure everything is balanced. I will do whatever my
mentor requested me to do. In case he/she asked my opinion I will share my
knowledge in creating board disply.
2. Small Group Discussion
Answer: I have to watch over the students on how they are dealing with the
given group tasks.
3. Checking class attendance in a virtual classroom (i.e. google meet or zoom)
Answer: By simply looking at the names which are present on the meeting.

Notice
Learning Environment 1:
 What have you noticed of the display in the class bulletin board? What
message of theme does it convey?
Answer: One of them is all about Environment protection, it emphasizes how
important to dispose our waste properly and take care of nature.
 What makes it attractive to the learners? Answer: The colors and comics way
of presenting information.
 Does it help in the learning process?
Answer: Yes, through this posters the students can be aware of what is the
mere fact of this world.

Learning Environment 2:

 If the teacher is using a distance delivery of learning through the modules,

where is most likely the learning space of the students?
Answer: On their homes
 Can you describe?
Answer: students should have their own table and study corner at home
where all the learning materials are present on their side. They must feel
comfortable of what they are doing.
 How can you as a teacher hl to make such environment conducive for
learning?
Answer: By encouraging the parents to help their children with all they got
and same also to the students to manage their studies.

Analyze
The examples above, describe two contrasting situations. The first shows that
the learners are in the same room or space while in the second, the learners maybe in
different learning spaces like homes, study hubs or in extreme cases parks or under
the trees.
As a teacher, in which of the two situations would you prefer to manage for
learning? Choose between Learning environment 1or Learning Environment 2.
Explain your choice: Why?
Answer: I'll go with learning environment 1, which shows students in a
space or classroom. because it's possible for students to ask questions at any time in
the classroom. It enables students to take part in numerous school activities, small
group discussions, and social interactions with their peers. I find it hard to believe
that this pandemic has rendered the entire face-to-face schooling system useless. I
long for such times to pass quickly because I miss them so much. Children can study
in an engaging and relevant environment while also grasping the fundamental nature
of the teaching-learning process. They can feel different emotions toward one
another through social engagement in the classroom. In my view, face-to-face
instruction cannot be replaced by online instruction.

Reflect
Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that
a. The advantage of face-to-face learning over internet learning is that it enables kids
to engage in a variety of hands-on activities while connecting with their peers.
b. It is my duty as a teacher to provide the ideal setting for the kids so they can sense
and experience a suitable learning atmosphere.
c. If the epidemic continues, I will need to be ready to teach in any situation, which
may include visiting students' homes to give lessons and provide a welcoming
learning atmosphere.

OBSERVE
What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning
environment?
Answer: The following issues are likely to arise with online learning:   Accessibility
in both space and time, Students' attendance, Variations in Learning Styles, Tech-
related issues and interruption of power. The following issues are likely to arise with
face-to-face learning:   Flexible learning is not a real thing, Travel time to school
from home, inadequate educational materials and Allowances for costs, such as peer-
to-peer violence
REFLECT
What solutions can I think of to solve the problem?
Answer: In order to interact with the pupils, I must first go to their houses and ask
them how they are doing and how I can help them. Second, in order to accommodate
all of the kids' learning requirements and interests, I as a teacher must have a plan A
and a plan B in place. Third, I need to talk to the parents to find out what their
circumstances are right now and where they stand. Fourth, I must exercise creativity
and develop a thoughtful outlook. Fifth, I need to put in more effort to completely
understand my current line of work. Last but not least, I need to be flexible in all I do
because I am responsible for the students' future.

PLAN
How should I do it?
Answer: I mentioned earlier that I should be ready for everything as a teacher. I
have to put up the work and willingness necessary to finish the job and meet the
children's requirements. The teacher is crucial in fixing these problems. And the
exact steps that I can do are as follows: first, before performing the required action, I
need to ask the principal for assistance and advise. I'll speak with the parents next to
find out more about their current circumstances. Third, I'll ask local authorities for
their help and intervention. Fourth, as a teacher, I shall develop all required teaching
resources. Depending on their requirements and the environment, I will modify
every aspect of my teaching methods.

Work on my Artifacts
In not less than 300 words, write an essay on the topic: “My Conducive
Learning Environment”

“My Conducive Learning Environment”

By: Marvin P. Bañares

The following characteristics will be highlighted in my supportive

learning environment as a future teacher: Flexibility is the first. In order to
establish a lot of open, roomy activity zones where students can work in groups, I
propose to change the furniture in my classroom. I will also have clipboards and
whiteboards available for anyone who don't have access to a table or desk.
Another trait is openness. I'd like to use kid-made art to decorate the walls.
The kids' self-esteem will rise as a result. For instance, setting up a comfortable
reading area for six-year-olds will inspire them to read more. Furthermore, by
creating shared open areas with other classes, I think I can assist the kids attain
their full physical, mental, and emotional potential.
The fourth choice is a real classroom. I will make sure that the placement
of desks and work areas, the aesthetics and appeal of bulletin boards, and the
storage of materials and supplies are all done properly in my future role as a
teacher. The fact that the area is both clean and secure will be evident to my
students.
The last environment is the psychological one. I want to make my
classroom friendly and accommodating for kids when I become a teacher. They
should talk about their opinions and feelings regarding something. I'll make sure I
can live up to their expectations as well.
