Activity 5.

1 Managing Time, Space, and Learning Resources

OBSERVE

1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
We observed grade 11 STEM students, age range from 16 – 17 years old.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
There are 11 boys and 24 girls at the class present when we’ve done our observation.
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior?
Yes, they were able to manage their own behavior since they are already at the teen-
age, they are aware of what to do and not during class or even when they are outside the
class.
4. Can the learner already work independently?
Yes, since there is a time when they are having sit work and we ask if they need some
help, but they said that they manage which is excellent that they understand the lesson even
though it took time, they are just at the stage that they are doubting their own capabilities.
5. Describe their span of attention.
As the class discussion start, they pay attention well to the teacher, whenever the do
a board work students would raise their hand and they do well since their answer right.
There is a time that the teacher discuss way to fast, and all the students make a noise that
the teacher was so fast discussing, the way they complain say that their all listening to the
teacher discussing at the front.

ANALYZE

1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books,
students’ belongings, supplies, etc.)? Describe these areas. Will it make a difference if
these areas for specific purposes are not present?
Yes, there is an area for teaching aid and supplies the teacher put those things at her
table. Area for the book is located at the back corner near the door, it is made of wood and
look like a cabinet and each subject had their own space at the cabinet. Opposite side of the
books is for students belonging like rack for shoes since when they get inside the class, they
take their shoes of and inside the class there is a rack for shoes.
It will make difference because organization in class will not be presented like the
book if there is no area for the books it will scatter all over the room and the book might be
destroyed as well when not in used. These areas make the class neat, clean and organize.
2. Are these rules and procedures posted in the room? List the down. Do these rules
reinforce positive behavior?
These are the rules and procedure posted in
room, but some other rules are not posted as
follow:
o Punctuality
o No gadget during class hours
o Always do your best
o Be responsible
o Respect the idea of others
The rules reinforce positive behavior since
it makes them a better student by respecting and
doing their best.

3. Did the students participate in the making the classroom rules? If the Resources Teacher
is available, ask him/her to describe the process. What’s the effect of the students’
participation in the rule-making on the student’s behavior?
According to the teacher the students did participate in making the classroom rules.
It has great effect since students participate, they will follow the rules since they are one
who made the rules and specially, they are the one who would comply to the rules.
4. What are the daily routines done by the Resource Teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
As we asked the teacher the first thing she would do is check the classroom window
for possible snake the might be inside the class since the room had the history of two snake
that get inside the class then after confirming that no snake the students will sanitize first
and take off their shoes and put it in the shoe rack or the shoe box that the students bought.
Due to pandemic the time is limited prayer, checking attendance, warm-up activities were
not done anymore at the beginning of the class cause of limited face-to-face which is once a
week, instead of checking attendance the teacher let the students write on a yellow paper
the names of students who are present while she is already starting her discussion.
5. Is there a setting arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement? Does this help in
managing the class?
The resource teacher would usually do for setting arrangement is let the excellent
student sit beside the average students for them to help one another but since the teacher
wasn’t able to assess each student’s setting arrangement wasn’t present but as I notice at
the right side near the door are mostly boys but there is one or two girls sitting at the front
and at the left side are all girls. She let the students choose where they want to sit, as I
observe the sitting arrangement does help managing the class since as class discussion start
all the students pays their attention to the teacher to listen to the lesson.
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
The class noise level is manageable, the teacher let them take turns in speaking so
that everybody could heard the one who is talking.
7. If a learner is not following instruction or off-task, what does the Resource Teacher do?
Describe the behavior strategies used.
If the student is not listening or following instruction, the teacher call her/his
attention and talk to her after class which no one of her classmate would notice that she/he
done something.
8. What does the Resource Teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors? (Behavior
strategies)
The teacher strategies are to give praises, reward, and encouragement to the
students to reinforce positive behavior.

REFLECT
1. Why do you need to enforce positive discipline?
Enforcing positive discipline teach good behavior while eliminating unwanted
behavior, demonstrates self-control, and teaches them how to make appropriate choices.
Positive discipline teaches children to become responsible and be respectful. It also
develops positive relationships to others and as educators you helps build confidence and
self-esteem.

ANALYZE

1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’ behaviors?
With the classroom organization and routines students actively participate in the
classroom, they know their responsibility and they will manage their learning better.
Lesson plan is carefully prepared that all the discussions are towards the achievement of its
objectives that the teacher design for her students to reach the goal of the teaching –
learning process.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom organization
and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
When designing the classroom organization and routines the teacher should put in
mind to avoid some of the distraction that keeps the students from functioning effectively
and might affect the students’ behavior and learning.
Behaviorist theory should be considered when dealing with classroom organization
and routines, as a teacher it’s her/his role to establish rules and procedures and to
communicate these rules clearly to students to implement appropriate reward and
punishment for the compliance of the rules.
3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In
motivating the students. Why were they effective?
The behavior strategies that is effective in managing the behavior of the learners is
being a role model yourself to your students. We know that when you take the lead they
would follow, being a teacher is being a second mother to your students you take good care
of them, you mold them to be better person in the future, they see them self to be like you in
the future so if you are responsible, they would also be responsible cause you motivate them
even without you knowing. Students’ encouragement and motivation is also effective using
appropriate instructional materials.

REFLECT
Reflect on the following and write your insights.
1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade level do you see
yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why?
I will prefer to teach at grade 8 level because at this stage they already adopt to the
life of being high school students, they are manageable for being mature and independent.
They do their work without being told by the teacher. I would impose routines and
procedure clean before and after class inside and outside the room, prayer, checking
attendance and assignments. Rules and regulation must be strictly followed like don’t loiter
outside the room when it is not yet time to go home or recess.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose
these rules?
Rules as follow:
Avoid loitering during class hours.
Pass assignments/projects on the due date given.
Always maintain cleanliness in the classroom.
Respect others with their ideas.
No gadget during class discussion.
These are the rules I would like to implement because they are achievable to
prevent the misconduct behavior of the student.
3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?
Yes, students should be involved in making the class rules because they are the one
who would follow those rules and for them to understand the importance of rules that if it
is followed there is reward and if you break the rules, there is a punishment. Discipline
begins from the student by following the rules and regulation that is imposed to class.
