What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance personal,
family, and community health. Kindergarten students will demonstrate the skills needed to develop
and maintain healthy personal relationships with the understanding of emotions and reactions. With
the tools given to them, the students should be able to demonstrate appropriate and inappropriate
reactions they would have to the situations they create within their script.

Selected Instructional Software Tool:

1. Anchor.fm
Description of Software:
1. Teachers and students can use Anchor to create podcasts quickly and easily. Teachers can make
podcasts for students that step them through assignments and projects, explain challenging concepts,
and direct students to additional resources.
2. By the end of the lesson, students will learn how to create a script of their own to talk about an
emotion they feel and the many examples they may feel that emotion. We can use Anchor to complete
the podcast project because it provides all the tools needed to create an organized and auditorily
appealing product. The students will learn how to plan and organize their ideas as they create a script
template for their next auditory experience, the finalized podcast.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ X - Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing

projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the
classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s
morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or
publishing it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
For my lesson plan, I go over emotions. First, I will introduce the topic through my podcast. For my
audio file, I have set it up in the same manner that I would do a morning circle time for my kids
however within audio form. I introduced the topic we would be learning about which is health
education, specifically talking and understanding emotions. Then I read the book of my choice as it
was short, then I reiterated the message of the importance of the topic. Again, the students can learn
through listening. Learning through listening can be less tedious than if they must read the book
themselves. Lastly, I then go over the whole group activity we will be doing. We will then have a
small group where the students will go to their own seats to do their emotions booklet. With this
booklet. After we will then re-join on the carpet for whole group, where I will introduce my video that
I have for the students. It will explain the many emotions we may feel, and I provide some scenarios
in which students must genuinely think of how they would feel/react. After the video I will ask my
students to make a script where they must talk about a feeling. Students may work together in pairs or
small groups where they choose any emotion and must create a script and create a podcast about it.
They must also demonstrate how they would react to their selected emotion appropriately and
inappropriately. I will actively assist students in any type of technological issues or if they do not
understand some of the software that we will be using. Feedback will be provided through their peers
as we will display their finalized videos in front of the class. I will conclude the lesson by reviewing
with a fun activity. First, using some printable flashcards, review the keywords and expressions from
the lesson. Then, with a soft ball, I will toss the ball to one of the students. I will ask that student
“How are you?” and they should answer. Then, that student should toss the ball to another student and
ask him/her “How are you?” I will repeat, until all students have had a chance to answer.

Managing student learning: Yes, this tool will have allowance for a shift in the behavior of students.
They will move from passive to active as in the video I have some scenarios and I will ask students
how they would feel in them. They will also be active in an assignment after the podcast I have made,
and after I show play my podcast, the students will have the opportunity to make their own
showcasing emotion they want to express before they can use a similar podcasting software.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:

The technology tool that would be primarily used for the students within the lesson would be my
podcast that I have made for the class. Audio files can be a great tool to assist students in gaining that

deeper understanding of content. Audio clips allow for more efficient processing and memory recall
as they can be replayed repeatedly. As far as the ending assessment assignment is concerned, the
students would need ANY device that allows them to record. It could even be a phone. Using audio
can help with Engagement, as audio learning has positive outcomes on multiple levels, including
increased motivation and deeper learning, and can impact students' ability to facilitate rich discussions
and identify problems. Using audio can help with the means of representation as this tool can be
customized with the audio file being slowed/sped up, or even replayed depending on the class needs.
In addition, audio files increase the availability of books or lessons to students to those with a reading
disability. Using audio can help with the means of Action and Expression - students can creatively
produce a podcast in which they showcase a script of whatever emotion they have chosen.

Reflection:
We learn through many ways - hearing, seeing, and telling stories. I think that the podcast would help
auditory learners as they focus on the words and storyteller’s voice. And for the podcast assignment,
students will be able to take the added information they learned through the lesson and make sense of
their understanding of the concepts and material with their own script.
The part of the lesson that I feel that the students would look forward to the most would have to be
when they must make their own feelings story.
