Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Science 3

(In an Inclusive Classroom Environment with three (3) visually impaired

students)

I. Objectives:

At the end of the discussion, the students will be able to:

a. Cognitive – Give examples of using their 5 sense organs in their daily lives.

b. Psychomotor – Identify the 5 sense organs and their functions.

c. Affective – Practice good hygiene at all times.

A. Content Standard:

The learners demonstrate understanding of parts, and functions of the sense organs of the
human body.

B. Performance Standard:

The learners are able to practice healthful habits in taking care of the sense organs.

C. Learning Competencies:

Describe the parts and functions of the sense organs of the human body (S3LT-IIa- b-1)

II. Content:

A. Unit 1 – Human Beings

Lesson: Sense Organs and their Functions

B. Values: Taking care of the body

C. Integration: Health

III. Learning Resources

A. Reference: Science and You 3, Diana L. Ferrer et.al, pp. 70 to 121

1. Teacher’s Guide:
2. Learner’s Material Pages: Science and You 3 pp.70 to 121
3. Textbook pages:

4. Additional Materials: Laptop, projector, video presentation. pictures, charts

B. Other Learning Resources: Perfume, flowers, small stones, salt and

different kinds of fruits.

IV. Procedures

A. Before the Lesson:

Engage:

1. Preliminary Activities: Prayer, greeting, checking of attendance and classroom

management.

2. Review of Previous Lessons: The teacher will ask the student what they have
discussed yesterday.

3. Motivation: Draw student’s attention by reciting the poem “Apple Pie by Jessica
McDonald”. Give out each student a copy of the poem and recite the poem together with
your students. Dictate and write in the board the following questions:

 What is the poem all about?

 What are the five sense organs of our body?

B. Discussion:
1. Exploration: Group Activity

Instructions:

 Group the students by 5 with maximum of 8 members each.

 For students with visual impairment, put them in groups that would stimulate their
auditory, tactile and hearing senses for this activity.
 Perform the activity by group:

1. Group I - Look around and list down the things that you can see. Describe their
shapes, sizes, and colors.
2. Group II - Close your eyes. Listen to the different sounds you hear. List them down.
3. Group III- Get a piece of cotton. Wet it with perfume and smell it. Do you like the
smell? What sense organs did you use?
4. Group IV- Touch your skin with a towel. How does it feel? What sense organ is
used?
5. Group V - Taste the sugar/salt. How does it does it tastes? What sense organs
is organs is used?

2. Explanation:

 Distribute pictures of the 5 sense organs to students.

 Next, distribute handouts that contain the summary of the lesson and prepare a study
packet so that the students can get assistance at home.
 Highlight the important terms in the given hand-outs and study packets.
 Provide a recorded audio of the lesson and a hand-out for students with visual
impairment.

What exactly are Sense Organs?

• The organs of the body that allow humans to see, smell, hear, taste, and touch
or feel.
• A sense is our ability to notice inputs, which we then interpret and respond to.
• Our senses are vital because they allow us to perceive our surroundings.
• The eyes (for seeing), nose (for smelling), ears (for hearing), tongue (for
tasting), and skin are the five sense organs (for touching or feeling).

The 5 Sense Organs and their Functions

Sense Organs Function

 Sight, often known as vision, is our ability to see.
 The eyes are the human body's visual sense organs.
 The color of human eyes varies according on the amount of
1. Eyes
melanin in the body.
(Seeing)
 Our eyes are sensitive to images of light.
 Seeing happens when the eyes detect and focus on
images
 Hearing is our ability to sense sounds. It is also known as
auditory perception or audition.
2. Ears  We have an auditory system that allows us to detect
(Hearing) vibrations and hear noises.
 We have auditory organs in our ears.
 Vibrations travel via a medium such as air.
 Olfaction is another term for the sense of smell.
 We have an olfactory system that allows us to sense and
perceive various odors and fragrances.
3. Nose
 The nose is an olfactory organ.
(Smelling)
 The nose can also function as a taste organ.
 Humans breathe through two holes in their noses known as
nostrils.
 We have one tongue through which we sense different
tastes and flavors such as sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.
 The papillae are the tiny lumps on the tongue.
4. Tongue  Taste buds are located between the papillae.
(Tasting)  Different areas of the tongue perceive different sensations:
the front detects salty and sweet flavors, the rear detects
bitter flavors, and the sides detect sour flavors.

 Skin is the largest organ.

 Our skin's receptors allow us to detect texture, pain, warmth,
pressure, and pain.
 Tactician, somatosensation, and mechanoreception are all
terms for touch.
 Skin  Neural receptors in the skin, as well as other surfaces such as
(Touching the tongue and hair follicles, activate the sense of touch.
)  Skin receptors send an impulse to the spinal cord, which
subsequently sends it to the brain.
 Itch-specific neurons in the skin provide us with the
sensation of itching.
V. Assessment

 Highlight the directions in each learner’s worksheet, and also read the direction to
the students.
 For students with visual impairment, read the test questions and choices to them.
