•Refers to traditional text that needs to
be read from beginning to end
•Is the most common type of reading
•Novels, short stories, poems, letters,
etc. are examples of linear texts

•Is the opposite of linear text for it is not
sequential
•The readers do not have to go
through the text in a sequential
manner in order to make the sense of
the text

•Any text that is not read from
beginning to the end falls into the
category of non – linear texts

flowcharts, graphs, maps, etc. are
examples of non – linear texts
