Disease Research Project

This project will be a power point presentation. You will choose a disease, research it, then present it to
the class. You will have 3 class periods to research your disease. The PPT will be at least 12 slides.
Adding a video to the PPT would be considered one slide. Use the internet to research your chosen
disease. Your project will include:

~ 4 colors (10 points)

~ At least 4 pictures (10 points)

Descriptive information to include:

~ What causes the disease (bacteria, virus, fungus, environmental factors, heredity, etc.) (10 points).

~ Incubation period (how long it takes for you to show S/S of the disease) (10 points).

~ Symptoms for men and women (they are often different) (10 points).

~ How is the disease transmitted?

 If it is an infectious disease, how is it transmitted?

 If it is a hereditary disease, who is the carrier and what are the chances of passing the
trait to offspring?

 If it is acquired through environmental factors, who is susceptible and how do they

acquire this disease?) (10 points).

~ How has this disease progressed or changed during the course of time? (10 points).

 Does the disease cause a rapid decline in health or is it a slow progression over many years?

 Has the death rate remained the same or decreased due to modern medicine (antibiotics or
immunization)?

 Has the pathogen mutated causing varying strains that are difficult to treat?

 Is the disease now eradicated or are there “waves” of re-occurances?

~ Treatment/ Is it curable? (10 points) If it is a cancer, include the 5-year survival rate. If it is a curable
disease, use a percentage – “most patients are cured of this disease when treated with. . .”

~ Prevention (10 points) How can acquiring this disease be prevented (if possible)?

~ Cite your sources (10 points).

You may use easybib.com or citationmachine.net to help you create your bibliography. Your sources
page(s) do not count toward the 12 pages of information in your PPT.
