2. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

Technical Definition of the Project Title

RESEARCH- the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to
establish facts and reach new conclusions.

INSTITUTE- a society or organization having a particular object or common factor, especially

a scientific, educational, or social one.

DEVELOPMENT- is a process of improving the quality of all human lives and capabilities by
raising people's level of living, self-esteem and freedom. This process is not of years, but of
many decades and goals is ever-changing.

IMMUNIZATION-
Process to guard against an infectious disease for a person or animal by putting a substance
in the body to produce antibodies.

3. Statement of the Problem:

COVID-19 Pandemic hits all around the world, started in 2019 and continuously spreading and
waiting for vaccine development. The Philippines is number one in Southeast Asia for having
the highest rates in Covid-19 cases. Our country has nothing to do but to wait for vaccine on
other countries which we cannot risk if another pandemic hits the country. With the help of
Architecture, it aims to help and provide the needs of our country. Here are the lists of
questions that will be asked for the research:

 How can Architecture help lead our country into one of the countries around the world
that can develop vaccines?
 How can Architecture help design a facility that will provide a bigger and better future
for our doctors, scientists and citizens?
 How can Architecture lift up our country with this facility in trying times and providing
what our country needs?

ISSUES KEY QUESTIONS OBJECTIVES

vaccines.

How can Architecture lift up To help our fellow Filipino

our country with this facility people to develop vaccines
in trying times and providing and to be distributed all over
what our country needs? our country without waiting
for other vaccines in other
countries.

4. Project Goals:

The main goal of this research is to acquire knowledge that will enhance the planning
and design in terms of building a research institute for medicinal development of immunization.

The main objective of the study is to provide right and just solutions that can help the
Philippines in having vaccines not only for COVID-19 but also for the other decease. Designing
this facility will help the target users to work and develop different vaccines that will be useful
to many situations in the future. It also targets to help the country to be ready in times of
another pandemic that might happen in the future and can also help other countries with this
kind of problems. Here are some key objectives that can help in designing the development
center:

 To provide flexible and spacious facility to allow target users to adapt and inherit
the benefits of providing a research institute for them.
 To introduce a center for medical field services that has multiple functions and
activities wherein they can execute and develop vaccines.
 To help our fellow Filipino people to develop vaccines and to be distributed all
over our country without waiting for other vaccines in other countries.

6. Project Component:

Project Description:
The focus of the project is to provide the target users a facility wherein they can
function well and produce and discover vaccines for future purposes. Providing them this
facility will allow them to have their maximum potential to work and create something good for
the country without going to other countries or facilities just for them to do their field of work.
The project aims to shape and develop the users for them to be prepared in the future starting
from students to the highest form of users in this development facility.

PRIMARY BUILDING

 RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT BUILDING- Building intended for research, conducting

the research and experimentations
 EDUCATIONAL BUILDING/CAMPUS- A building designed for activities related educational
purposes.
 DORMITORIES- building intended for the stay-in researchers and doctors’ quarters.

SECONDARY BUILDINGS

 ADMIN BUILDING
 OPEN FIELD
 RESTAURANT
 CLINICS

Project Scope:
The project is an institute intended for research purposes on implementing medicinal
immunization or vaccines. The target users will have their own respective buildings or facility
where researchers can do their field of research that would allow them to work freely and in a
hassle-free environment. Bigger companies or pharmaceutical companies can either rent or
stay within the facility to work and discover vaccines. Microbiology graduate students who are
going to pursue their MD can also work on the facility and will be designing a learning center for
them for educational purposes. With that, they will be also offered dormitories or a space or

building intended for those who wants to stay within the facility so that their time will not be
spent on travelling from one place to another.

Facilities and Equipment for learning or educational building

A) Classroom requirements – the medical school shall provide adequate physical plant and
other resources to support its various educational activities. It shall have not only classrooms
but also laboratories needed for the programs. The laboratories shall have the necessary
equipment to support the instructional needs.

B) Laboratory requirements – It is not necessary that the facilities be hi-tech but they shall be
adequate for the students to at least develop competencies for primary patient care and
community practice. The facilities shall represent variety of settings that are similar to the
actual place of medical practice. It shall include community-based and ambulatory care facilities
as well as in-patient care facility.

C) Audio-Visual equipment – The medical school shall have adequate audio-visual equipment
and software. These include films, slide and overhead projectors; films, tapes and CDs, charts,
pictures and models. It is desirable for a medical school to have skills laboratory before
students are exposed to real patients.

Windows for classrooms

1) The windows must be of bilateral fenestration (transparent or translucent), operable louver

type. The window must allow the entry of daylight even if it is closed.

2) The total area of window openings must be at least 10.00 square meters to provide for
natural ventilation and illumination.

3) The window sill must not be lower than 0.60 meter for single-storey buildings or higher than
0.90 meter for multi-storey buildings from the finished floor line (FFL).

4) The minimum height of the fixed louver or transom window above the operable windows is
0.30 meter.

5) The window panels, when opened, must not be an obstruction along the corridor.

6) The window metal frames and jalousie holders must be sturdy enough to withstand
vandalism.

Doors

1) There shall be two (2) doors for every classroom.

2) The swing-out should be 180 degrees.

3) The doors must be 0.90 meter in clear width and 2.10 meters in clear height.

4) The doors must withstand normal wear and tear and shall be provided with keyed lever-type
locksets.

“NAUTILUS SHELL”

A nautilus shell is a type of shell that has chambers arranged in approximately logarithmic
spiral, the shell itself has a pattern of circular motion starting from the center going outwards.
This sequence is connected to the process being done to conducting a research. Each process
has equivalent actions and production, the shell is used in this project because it shows that the
process of making a vaccine is a long-term cycle, with a lot of brain storming being done by the
researchers and specialists.
