special customs or beliefes

My name is Luma Nayra Ferreira Max, I am 23 years old about to turn 24. I was born in
the state called Mato Grosso and lived there for 15 years. Until I was 13 we lived in a
town that had 15,000 inhabitants and was 200 km from the capital. Mato Grosso is a
large state that is in the mid-west, is mostly covered by Amazon rainforest and
savannah plains, and is known as the heart of South America and as the largest state
with an agricultural economy. The benefit of being born and raised in a small town is
how close you become to the people. The people are always very welcoming and kind,
and it's funny how they love to wake up early and clean their gardens.

I loved living there, it was quiet and had a lifestyle very close to nature and animals.
Because of it, all my childhood memories have animals so I guess I've been passionate
about them since I was a little girl. Much of this influence came from my father who
had a farm before I was born and kept the property until I was 13 years old. So I can
say that I had a lot of contact and experience in different ways, especially with horses
and dogs, although I was always very much surrounded by various species.

My parents have three daughters and I am the middle one. My older sister is 25 years
old and she is an architect and and the younger one is 20 years old and studying
journalism. My father is a retired lawyer and my mother dedicated her entire life to
taking care of the house and the Family.

When I turned 5, I got my first horse and grew up riding and taking care of him. I think
having that first responsibility of "taking care" of him made me fall in love with the
idea of doing it for the rest of my life. Since I didn't know the name of the profession
yet, I grew up saying that I wanted to take care of animals like my dad, and in fact, my
dad had a hobby farm, but he was a lawyer. Around the age of 10, I discovered
veterinary science and knew I would be a veterinarian when the time came.
We moved to Cuiabá (capital of Mato Grosso) when I was about to turn 14. When I
moved, I lost some of this contact with horses and started to study and practice sports.
I practiced volleyball and dance for three years in high school, and took drawing and
swimming lessons. I lived for only 3 years in the capital until I moved to Minas Gerais,
the state where I live today, to attend veterinary school.

I am a person who loves early mornings, sunsets, horses and dogs. I must have been an
Italian in the past because I love pasta and pizza, but I love salads and fruit too so there
is a balance. I like comfortable clothes and sneakers are my favorite shoes.

One of the phrases I have learned in my life is "the best part of a dream is having one
and the best part of the goal is chasing it. So don't stop chasing". I am a person who
believes in God in all his forms, and I believe that faith is the best way to speak witho
him.

WORK EXPIRIENCE
Since the beginning of my graduation I kept myself open to experience all sides of
medicine, so after my first year of basic education I decided to do an internship in June
2018 with small animals in a veterinary hospital in the city of Uberlândia and I could
follow the animals' screening, control and update the patient's records, follow patients
in their recovery and monitor them after surgeries and non-surgical procedures.
Although I liked dogs and cats a lot, I knew that this was not the area I would follow for
the rest of my life.

That's when in December 2018 I did my first externship with large animals, at an
equine stables. The sector I was in was reproduction and I assisted in the management
with foals. My task was to assist the senior veterinarian in recording the reproductive
data of each mare's cycle during the breeding season. I assisted in some dystocia
deliveries and was involved in intensive care during the first 24 hours of the foal's life,
helped the foal stand up and gently guide it to the mare's udder helping with suckling,
navel healing, measuring immunoglobulins after 6 hours of life, measuring the
glycemic rate and introducing a feeding tube when necessary. This initial care from
gestation to birth made me even more interested in this aspect of reproduction and
neonatology. This externship lasted 2 months.

The following year, I did an externship in June 2019 with large animals (cattle and
horses), and had the same experience with reproduction of both species. It was dairy
cattle so I could follow some of the clinic's casuistry and some dystocia deliveries as
well, although I was always more interested with equine practice. In this experience, I
had contact with the vaccination and deworming schedules of the species and
provided the same assistance to the younger animals. The calves were bottle fed and I
handled a total of 50 calves, also performed navel healing and checked their lungs and
temperatures every day in search of any possible abnormality. The same management
was done with foals up to 1 year old. This internship lasted 2 months.

In my fourth year of graduation I chose to dedicate myself only to equine practice and
that was when I did two internships in reproduction and equine internal medicine. The
first lasted 10 months and the second 6 months.

In the first internship I was able to follow reproductive casuistry at the Gallop Center
and also the external services that the center provided to the clients. That internship
started in the month of January 2020 and ended in September of the same year. In the
out-services the senior veterinarians were consulting clients on their properties to
make sure that the management was healthy and ideal for the need, as well as setting
up a vaccination and deworming schedule, giving guidance on the ideal amount of feed
and best ration. This allowed me to understand different approaches to ensure a
healthy environment for the horses.

Inside Central Gallop I had two functions, one was to follow the reproductive cycle of
each mare with ultrasound and palpation, note all the evolution of follicles to define
the ideal moment of insemination, collect semen from stallions for immediate
insemination or freezing, and also prepare for export when a client bought a dose of
sêmen, assisted in embryo recovery, uterine washes for exams and treatment. The
hormonal medications that were part of the reproductive protocol, both IV and
intramuscular, were also my responsibility. The second one was to monitor patients
who were in intensive care for colic, infecttious pulmonary and gastrointestinal
desease in folas and adults, septic foals, laminitis and tendonitis

It was in this internships that I had the opportunity to develop research. I did two, one
of is with low volume uterina wash as a way to diagnose endometritis also using blood
and rich plasma as a form to treatment. And the other one I was na assistent and we
used buserelin in diferente dosage as a multiple ovulation inducer and also to getting
mares out of anestrous.

My second internship experience started in another 2020 and lasted until March 2021.
It was a different experience than the others as I experienced exclusive vets on this
farm, all the vets live on site and provided care 24 hours a day. I was able to
experience more of this part of field management and I dealt with a lot of with
health issue due to overcrowding. I was responsible for the care of the foals that
were being treated for Rhodococcus. My job was to peform medication twice a
day, monitor vital signs in three rounds per day, note end of treatment, perform
hyperimmune plasma bags to boost immunity of foals up to 24 hours. In the
adult horse clinic, I had the responsibility of monitoring the evolution of horses
that were being treated for diseases such as strangles, influenza, Protozoan
Myeloencephalomyelitis, etc. During this time i also had a little experience with
field castration only by assistin the sênior veterinarian.

In 2021 I attended a course in sports medicine and orthopedics and learned

about the Identification of subclinical problems in Sport Horses by applying the
Claudication Test to diagnose the problem. In 2020 I did another one in
management with pregnant mares and foals, I studied the energy and
nutritional needs of a mare in the last trimester of pregnancy, also learning how
to evaluate the body condition and the vaccines needed in this period to pass
immunity to the foal.
In early 2020 I took a update course on Equine Liver Diseases, ways to diagnose and
treat. Also in late 2020 I took another in management with pregnant mares and foals, I
studied the energy and nutritional needs of a mare in the last trimester of pregnancy,
also learning how to assess body condition and the vaccinations needed in this period
to pass immunity to the foal.

Pratical and SPECIAL SKILLS

Learned to use evidence-based medicine, education and experience to provide

the highest quality preventive care, diagnosis and treatment services, learned to
be able to work under pressure and maintain focus despite stressful situation. I
am committed to continuously improving skills in and out of the veterinary field.
Professional comportment and appearance with excellent interpersonal skills
and a positive friendly attitude.
Skill in taking vital signs, palpation for uterine assessment, IV and Im
medication administration, bandaging and wound dressing.

Hobbies
I have always enjoyed recording moments, and that is why I love and practice
photography because it gives me that feeling of freezing the moment and
prevents me from forgetting. I am passionate about motorsports and I strictly
follow Formula 1. Part of this influence comes from when I was a child and my
whole family would get together to watch on Sundays, names like Ayrton Senna
and Rubens Barrichelo have always been very present since I was a child, so I
grew up very passionate about the sport. Currently I create content together
with my sister and a friend about the automobilism on social medias and we
have already reached incredible marks of reach.

I love to read. My literary genres are self-development, entrepreneurship,

neuroscience, bibliographies. Reading has something amazing about it, and
that is that it allows the individual to learn to see perspectives different from
what he or she is used to, and this changes lives.
WHY DO YOU WANT INTERNACIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE

The greatest thing is how much knowledge can be gained through the exchange of
experience with different practices and perspectives of equine medicine. There is no
better way to learn than to immerse yourself in the process with different
professionals who can help you. It is in getting out of the comfort zone that the
learning process begins, and that is what I am looking for.

3 GOALS WITH CAEP PROGRAM

- To be exposed to an environment with a casuistry that challenges and teaches me

- Discover and increase a lot of skills that can help me develop as a professional and as
a person

- The porgram will also help me develop networking with locals, collecting references
and nurturing valuable contacts. This international experience will greatly benefit my
career development.

DO YOU PLAN TO TRAVEL IN USA?

I really want to spend all my time on activities. But if there are any travel plans it is
likely to involve the beach and watching the Formula 1 race in Austin in October.

I did two internships in equine internal medicine and reproduction
