1. Ans: Objectives of setting machine are as follows:


§ This operation makes the leather flat and smooth
§ Removes the wrinkles.
§ Hide spreading and grain side flattening operations are performed by
the blunt knife cylinder widens spreads and flattens the grain side of
the leather

§ Some of the bio-degradable tannery solid wastes are sources of pathogenic
bacteria and volatile organic compounds emission.
§ Excess heavy metal accumulation in soil is toxic to humans and other
animals.
§ Chromium metal which is the most widely used in tanning industries as
chromium salt and it causes carcinogenic effect when it enters human body
through food chain

4. Ans: Advantages and disadvantageous of Landfill:

Advantages:
• Relatively simple and inexpensive.
• Can have beneficial effects reclaiming land otherwise for commercial,
residential, or recreation purposes.

Disadvantages:
• Decomposition of leather waste is very low
• Leather decomposition produce potential locates which may cause
ground water contamination
• Chromium deposits can be a health problem
