SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 9

A. Content Standards.
The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American
literature and other text types serve as means of preserving unchanging
values in a changing world; also how to use the features of a full-length
play, tense consistency, modals, active and passive constructions plus
direct and indirect speech to enable him/her competently performs in a
full-length play.
B. Performance Standards
The learner competently performs in a full-length play through applying
effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources based on the
following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery and Dramatic conversations.
C. Learning Competencies
A. EN9RC-Iva-2, 18: Relate text content to particular social issues,
concerns, or dispositions in real life.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, majority of the students should be able to:
 Analyse the story “A raisin in the Sun.”
 Connect understanding about the story;
 Illustrate the context of the story.

A. Preparatory Activity
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Setting of classroom atmosphere
4. Checking of attendance
5. Showing of classroom rules
6. Review

B. Developmental Activity
1. Motivation
The students will listen on the song entitled “The River of Dream
a. What issues about life are confronting the speaker in the song?
b. Among the issues, what do you think he values the most? Why do
you say so?
c. If you were him, would you resolve the issue?
C. Discussion
The story “A raisin in the Sun.”

D. Application
The students will be group into five member and collaborate to
answer the given question.
1. What is Mama’s greatest dream for her family? Illustrate it in the
box. State her reasons behind it.

E. Generalization
 What is the story trying to tell us all about?
 How important are our dreams in life?

V. EVALUATION
The students will answer the given questions below:

1. What does Walter want to do with the insurance check? Discuss his
motive. Why do you think Mama does not approve of it?
2. Does any of the characters in the play remind you of someone? How does
that someone plan his course of action to realize his dream?
3. Would you have dreamt of the same thing for your family? Why?

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Review the poem “Dreams Deferred” by Langston Hughes on page 430.
In preparation for a short quiz.
