An innovative month-long IPEd related activity of Benguet National High School Annex-Puguis
School Year 2020-2021
Theme: “Hamon sa Pandemya Ating Harapin, Gabay ang Katutubong Karunungan at Giting”
Republic Act 8371 otherwise known as Indigenous Peoples Rights Act was promulgated as an instrument
providing a legal framework that aims to rectify to a certain extent the historical injustice done on IP Communities in our
country. This is enacted to recognize, promote, and protect the Rights of Indigenous Communities/Indigenous Peoples all
over the archipelago.
In support, DepEd Order No. 62 s. 2011, Section 3 states that; “The state recognizes the inherent rights of
ICCs/IPs to self-determination and respects the integrity of their values, practices, and institutions. Consequently, the
state should guarantee the right of ICCs/IPs to freely pursue their economic, social, and cultural development.”
Relative to this, Benilda M. Daytaca, EdD, CESO VI of the School Division of Benguet issued Division
Memorandum No. 208, s. 2020 enjoining all schools to conduct relevant activities related to the promotion of Indigenous
Peoples Rights.
As an institution catering to Indigenous Peoples, Winnie Freda D. Domerez, Officer In-Charge of Benguet
National High School Annex-Puguis issued a Memorandum directing all School Personnel to undertake activities related
to the IPED Month Celebration.
Finally, these identified activities will enhance further the deeper appreciation and promotion of IP cultures of I-
Benguet amidst COVID-19 Pandemic. Activities that will further strengthen the interaction, integration, and teamwork
among learners, mentors, PTA Officials, Barangay Officials, and the community.
II. OBJECTIVES
1. Conduct activities related to the promotion of Indigenous Peoples Education to ensure that no iBenguet
Learners left behind;
2. Prepare IP reading inspired comprehension activities for BeNHS Annex-Puguis Learners;
3. Conduct a dialogue with the stakeholders concerning Benguet National High School Annex-Puguis;

III. PARTICIPANTS

The activities will be undertaken in the following dates at the Benguet National High School Annex-Puguis and
homes of BeNHS Annex-Puguis learners.

The birth of ASEAN 50 years ago calls for a splendid celebration together with the National Tourism Week,
Consumerism Week and the United Nations Week as mounted in the promotion of Filipino costumes, history, and culture.
In connection, our ancestors were the original inhabitants of the region and that they occupy the land since time
immemorial. The strong connection to the land eventually developed a unique culture, tradition, beliefs, and practices that
eventually handed down from generation to generation. It is therefore our obligation as recipients of these outstanding
achievement to continue the legacy handed to us.
In support, the Department of Education issued DepEd Order No. 62 s. 2011, Section 3 states that; “The state

Relatively, Gloria B. Buya-ao, the Schools Division Superintendent issued Division Memorandum No. 385 s.
2021 identified IPed suggested related activities throughout the month. This is to promote greater awareness and
appreciation of the Indigenous Peoples’ cultural heritage and history.
As an institution catering to Indigenous Peoples, Puguis National High School, through its Araling Panlipunan
teachers identified simple activities that will be undertaken to wit:

Benguet amidst COVID-19 Pandemic. Activities that will further strengthen the interaction, integration, and teamwork
among learners, mentors, PTA Officials, Barangay Officials, and the community.

The target participants to this activity are teaching and non-teaching staff of Puguis National High School, PTA
Executive Officers, SSG Officers, Public Servants, and other stakeholders.

of Benguet Schools for having supportive stakeholders, trusted leaders, potential teachers and

This indigenous myriad strategy of gaining educational support while recognizing all
the supportive stakeholders through cultural gathering performed with real solemn
and prayerful offering performed for a bountiful harvest, for economic progress, and
for healing as cited by Donna Jessen in her Cultural encounters and differences.
These cited reasons for conducting such selected and limited gathering during
this COVID 19 pandemic is now looked upon by Benguet NHS Annex Puguis as a
strategic tool for the following (1) provide the stakeholders with an overview of the
educational reforms, challenges and prospects as BeNHS Annex Puguis faces these
changes brought abouts by COVID 19 pandemic; (2) nurture stakeholders
participation, programs and projects, which are essential to the delivery of quality and
accessible Learning delivery modalities and improvement of school performance; and
(3) include a social dialogue program in order to build a more harmonious relationship

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9003 otherwise known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, the
schools SSG Officers find it necessary to construct a cage that can contain a considerable number of plastic bottles to help
the problem of garbage in our locality.
Furthermore, one of the priority programs of BeNHS Puguis-Annex is to strengthen and develop among the
studentry and the community the spirit of cooperation specially activities that are geared toward responsible citizenry.
Finally, the project will be conducted to develop environmental awareness among stakeholders and to strongly
support national statutes and local ordinances that concern our environment.
II. OBJECTIVE
The project will commence on the third week of July 2017. Participants will conduct planning on July 10-14,
2017. SSG will prepare communication letters to be forwarded to the office of the Assistant Principal II and President of
the PTA.

IV. RATIONALE
Aside from the classroom as the prime arena where learning takes place, extra-curricular activities that take
place outside of regular class teaching are still related to learner’s developmental needs such as their sense of
social responsibility, participatory governance, skills and creativity. Through their participation in extra-
curricular activities, learners can learn to communicate, to cooperate with other people and in addition to enrich
their experiences. These activities then will therefore enable themselves to discover and develop their potential.
Relatively, our very own Municipality is inviting our institution to participate in its 38 th
STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL CELEBRATION particularly in the STREET DANCING COMPETITION with
the theme: LA TRINIDAD: MY HOME…MY PRIDE…… which will be conducted on March 23, 2019 at
K.M. 6. La Trinidad, Benguet.
Finally, the BENGUET NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ANNEX-PUGUIS CULTURAL CLUB has
decided to participated in the aforementioned event to expose our learners in the realm of participatory
governance and civic engagement. Our participation in the aforementioned endeavor illustrates that Benguet
National High School Annex-Puguis strongly supports the promotion of our rich heritage for the world to
recognize and appreciate.
V. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The participants of the Strawberry Festival Street Dancing Competition will be the Junior High School
Learners who are officially enrolled this School Year 2018-2019. Teacher-Advisers are also expected to
assists their respective learners who will be joining the competition.
The Street Dancing Competition will be conducted on March 23, 2019 along K.M. 6 La Trinidad going to
the municipal grounds at 7:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon. Benguet National High School Annex-Puguis contingents will
assemble first at school for their preparation at 5:00 A.M. to 6:45 A.M. Lunch for the participants will be serve
at Benguet National High School Annex-Puguis grounds.
