It's just like subtracting integers, first we


have to change the sign of all the terms
of the subtrahend and go back to the
addition rule.

In this equation 5x² + 2x - 3 minus 4x² + 4x² + 2x - 7


2x - 7, where is the subtrahend?

Very good!

We have to change the signs of all the


terms of the subtrahend, so
4x² will be ? -4x²
2x² will be? -2x²
And -7 will be ? +7

So the equation of the subtrahend is


now -4x² -2x + 7. Then we will change
the operation sign from minus to plus.

5x² + 2x - 3 plus -4x² - 2x + 7 is x² + 4.

Understood ? Yes ma'am !

Example:
( 4a³ - 2a² + 5a + 7 ) - ( 3a³ - 8a² - 9a -
14)
(4a³ - 2a² + 5a + 7 ) + ( -3a³ + 8a² + 9a +
14)
= a³+6a²+14a+21.
