Herbert Puchta

Herbert Puchta holds a Ph.D. in ELT Pedagogy, was a Professor of English at the Teacher
Training University in Graz, Austria and is a well-known plenary speaker at numerous
international conferences. He was also President of IATEFL, the International Association of
Teachers of English as a Foreign Language. For more than three decades, Herbert has done
research into the practical application of findings from cognitive psychology and brain
research to the teaching of English as a foreign language. Herbert has co-authored numerous
course books as well as articles and resource books. His latest resource books are Teaching
Young Learners to Think and Activities for Very Young Learners. His course books include
Super Safari (for pre-primary), Quick Minds and Super Minds for primary students, Think for
teens, and Empower for adults and young adults.

Talk: The Importance of Stories in Teaching Young Learners

With young learners, stories work magic. The story, then, is not an external means of
conveying language – it is more of a journey that the child participates in by identifying with
the protagonists, worrying about their survival, laughing in situations that provide relief, and
celebrating their successes – and making meaning of language in a pleasing and natural way.
In this session, Herbert will give practical tips on the methodology of using stories in the
young learners’ classroom and share a few examples from Super Minds Second Edition
aimed at making the children's learning swifter, easier and more fun.

Anne Robinson

Anne Robinson has been involved in English Language Teaching for over thirty years as a
teacher, trainer, language school director and consultant to various educational bodies. As a
Cambridge author, Anne has written several publications, including the Fun for series, Fun
Skills and the Exam Booster for Advanced. Currently, Anne is writing content for several
digital products, as well as for her webpage, teachingtogether.info, where she shares
materials and insights for teachers.

Talk: Fun ways to get students interacting and responding

Let's consider how we can get students interacting with course content and responding to fun
challenges. Ways to check answers, to share knowledge, giving students a choice and a voice.
In this practical session, we'll try out some practical activities for you to take away and use in
your classes, whatever the level.

Aniella Giorgiana Busila

Aniella Giorgiana Busila is a teacher and a teacher trainer and has been a Cambridge English
Educational Consultant since 2009. She has extensive experience of Cambridge English
exams and has prepared students and teachers for the full range of Cambridge English
qualifications. Aniella has given presentations at a large number of events in Romania and
the Republic of Moldova for teachers, parents and students. She has always been interested
in her own professional development to continually improve her students and trainees’
learning experience. Aniella holds a degree in foreign languages and Cambridge English TKT
and CELTA teaching qualifications.

Talk (Part 1): Big dreams for young learners

Together we can help young children to learn English while having fun and prove their skills
to the world. The presentation will introduce all Cambridge exams dedicated to young
learners and help you to prepare your students every step of the way. You will learn how to
use our placement test, what resources suit your students best, and how your students
benefit from national and international recognition of their efforts to learn English.

John Mc Neill

After completing a CELTA in 1999 John taught in four countries around the world before
finally settling in Switzerland. During his teaching career he completed an MA in Education.
Since 2008 he has worked for Cambridge University Press in several business development
roles and currently focuses on Cambridge Exams Publishing across Europe and North Africa.
His current role is Business Development Manager, Cambridge Exams Publishing Europe and
North Africa.

Talk: Helping your students help themselves to exam success

Cambridge has accelerated its digital offer to make our newest learning materials even more
flexible for whatever teaching scenarios arise. After asking you how you currently use online
resources in your teaching we will give a concise overview of Cambridge One – our new
mobile-first platform. This helps students develop the skills and strategies to control, plan,
reflect upon and evaluate their learning. Introducing these resources to your students will
encourage learner autonomy and build confidence before exam day. We will take a special
close look at our exam practice tool - Test & Train and introduce the brand new feature of the
writing auto marker.

Sarah Ellis

Sarah Ellis is currently working as Senior Manager, Assessment Services, Europe for
Cambridge Assessment English. She is based in Bologna, Italy. Sarah is interested in
Assessment, Learning & Professional Development and has an extensive background in
teaching, teacher training, assessment and exam management. She has trained teachers on
CELTA and DELTA courses and is currently involved in the Cambridge Assessment English
teacher support programme which provides information, materials and support for teachers
and academic directors. She is particularly interested in supporting teachers in developing
digital skills and assessment literacy.

Talk: Working with Words: developing vocabulary skills (B1-B2 levels)

Vocabulary is an essential part of learning English and in this session, we will consider what
vocabulary is used at B1-B2 and ways to support learners to develop and expand their
vocabulary with ideas, activities, and digital tools. We will also explore some of the ways
vocabulary is assessed in Cambridge English Qualifications.
