ABOUT
WHAT IS GSHADE?
CHAPTER 01
A note for pre-existing users of other versions of ReShade: GShade will not
override or remove any Presets you may have personally created or installed
from other sources. If you choose to do a backup, everything related to your
previous installation including .ini Presets, .ini config files, .dll files, Textures,
Start-Up and Shaders will be placed into a backup folder.
After downloading the .exe file, go ahead and double click (or right click
> “Open”). You will be met with a Windows Smartscreen box for the first
installation. Click on the underlined words “More Info”, then proceed to
allow Windows to make the changes by pressing “Run anyway”.
“More info”
This is a Windows security measure to notify you that you are installing a program from an unidentified

the .exe location is: “C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY

For the past couple of months, the team had been brainstorming
on how the overflowing amount of selections and pop-ups could be
contained and compiled into something that is a lot less intimidating
and time-consuming.
If you feel confident that the default selections are the right ones,
you can skip the next sections of the guide.

First thing’s first: Make sure your game is currently shut down and that
the launcher isn’t open, as this will prevent you from installing GShade.

click the address bar at the top like before. With it highlighted you can
either press “CTRL+V”, or right click it and select “paste”.
Then press enter to open the correct location.
Now, if you look down at the folder’s contents, click on the file called

You are now good to go and can continue installing as normal. Yay!
If you have both, Steam and Windows versions of your game installed,
please make sure GShade is installed to all of them. We recommend you
do this through the “GShade Control Panel” after the first installation.
CHAPTER 02
As GShade has expanded outward from Final Fantasy XIV to cover more
games and possibilities, it became increasingly clear that keeping track
of all installed copies of GShade was quite tedious. With this in mind,
our developers put their heads together and came to the conclusion that
The Control Panel for the benefit and sanity of all, it would be best to have a hub where you
could access your installations easily to make updates and adjustments
as you see fit. From this, the Control Panel was created.
Let us hop straight into things, the journey is far from over and there is
still much for us to cover! Once your GShade installation is complete,
you’ll now find a new shortcut icon on your computer’s desktop called
“GShade Control Panel”. Assuming you haven’t already deleted, go right
ahead and double click this icon.
In the off chance you have deleted the shortcut, you will also find it in
the “GShade” folder under your start menu.
Home Tab
Once you have opened up the Control Panel, the first thing you are going
to be met with is a sleek black window featuring our slogan “Beauty.
Stability. Compatibility. GShade”, with a red button below it saying “NO
UPDATE AVAILABLE”. To the left of this you have four tabs.
The red tab called “Home” is the page you are currently on.
The Control Panel is amazing, just like our community. Come see!

houses the named .exe from number one.
Let’s take a closer look at each of the options so you know exactly what
to expect from them. Cog: Interacting with the cog will allow you to access all of the
initial Preset setup options that you originally had access to during

installed Presets you have active in your GShade Presets menu.

Update Presets: When you make changes using the Cog that we

finalize the process so that GShade can update your files accordingly.
Add New: By clicking here, a directory box will pop up.This will

games to the list such as World of Warcraft or Phantasy Star

8 clicking this after you have uninstalled a game, you will then have
GShade and its respective files removed from the destination.
Preset files will never be deleted.
Vulkan (x64) and Vulkan (x86): As GShade is enabled for all Vulkan
applications on your computer after being installed to one Vulkan
9 game, you can use these to toggle GShade’s global Vulkan support
on or off. Live long and process.
Like before, you’ll locate your exe file, followed by pressing “Next”.
By utilizing the Cog you can choose each of your games available Presets
without having to go raking through files and getting lost.
If you accidentally turn off a Preset you wanted to keep, or even edited
a Preset that you didn’t mean to while using GShade, you are able to
unselect the corresponding folder here, go back, press “Update Presets”,
then go back into the cog menu and reactivate the Preset for a fresh
copy to be restored
When you Press “Ok” you’ll be prompted to update the presets.
When you have pressed “Next” once again, it will be followed by the
“Screenshot Save Location”, and finally a prompt for whether or not you’d

Whether it’s because of technical difficulties, change in environment,

There are two ways you can Uninstall GShade from your computer. The
first is by using the Control Panel. The second is by going to “Add and

guide how to do it using the Control Panel as the process is the same.
This is the nuclear option and the only way you can go back is by
reinstalling the entire application all over again.
Presets will never be deleted during this process.

Upon selecting “Yes” your Control Panel will shut down, and the “GShade

process will be carried out, what will be removed, and a tick box at the
bottom will allow you to choose whether or not you want to make one
final backup before purging your system of active installations.
Pressing “Next” will set the process in motion, you will be met with the
log display, telling you exactly what is happening, while it happens. When
the green bar has reached the end, press “Next” once again.
The last window is the confirmation of GShade being ready for the final
purge. You will need to restart your computer in order for the last of the
files to be removed.
The tick indicates that you want to perform one last backup.
You may click Finish and resume your normal activities by this point;

Mini-Tutorials How to Use Layer.fx and Stagedepth.fx
Over the past year we have had two separate versions of this very same

of doing things without having to rename files or wiggle them about. Let’s
jump straight into the Overlay and grab a “Layer [Layer.fx]”. This is the
screen you’ll be greeted by when you first select the Technique:

The first thing we need to do is open up the Textures folder, you can do
this by the following two options:
Option 1: Pressing the [...] button at the top of the Overlay to bring up

“gshade-shaders” and navigate into the “Textures” folder.
Option 2: Open up a folder, then copy and paste into the bar at the top:

Silhouette
In this mini-tutorial, we will be taking a glance at our Shader called
Silhouette. Silhouette is a peculiar and fun Shader, but one of our more
artsy standalones.
This beautiful little Shader allows you to literally silhouette things by
utilising the depth adjustable layers known as Stagedepth.fx. As a bit of
history for the precious toy, it was, for better or worse, a complete and

example) that you can erase it with afterwards. Otherwise you’ll need to
find a place you can get a good, unobstructed float with! So for the basics of Silhouette, these are the default settings. You
really can’t go wrong with this Shader, so playing around with it is
nothing to worry about at all. Let’s zoom in on the Shader’s settings
anyway and have a look at the things you can do with it.
Oh no! It’s all the sliders and the numbers again! Big eek?
Not even a little eek! So here we have your default settings.
The Foreground Texture which is currently set to “Papyrus2.png” is the
one that will be defining your shapes and separating everything from the
background. This Texture only has three different setting options available
to you, we will take a quick look at two of them:
Moving onto the background settings, these Sliders will manipulate the
light colored Texture in our background above which by default is set to

Tutorial 04
Spotlights
In this mini-tutorial we will be illuminating your world with Spotlight!
Spotlight is another small and fancy little feature which can be used to
actively brighten your screen in the sense of using a torch, or could be
used more artistically to apply flare to your screenshots.
Each of the DOFs have almost identical settings and will often work visually
in very similar ways, however, they all have something that is different,
whether it be below the surface in the coding, or on your screen where
you can see it for yourself.
Despite all of this, the best advice that can be given when you’re new is
to simply test them out and find what suits you best! The results you can
acquire with DOF is beyond spectacular, so don’t be afraid to play!
CHAPTER 08
Warning
Whatever you do, do NOT overwrite Textures or Shaders that are included
in GShade as you will break the appearance of all pre-existing Presets.
Optional Shaders and Techniques
Once you’ve found your folder, you’ll notice a variety of different folders.
From here, go to the folder titled “Shaders”.
This folder houses all of the Shaders that GShade uses to make your
screenshots look different in their myriad of ways.
It is this folder you will be placing any ‘.fx’ Shader files you want to use
in conjunction with GShade.
‘Compute Shaders’ houses the .fx files that won’t run on DirectX 9 games.
Now, if you press the back button to return to the ‘gshade-shaders’ folder,
By now, hopefully you have gotten used to GShade and all of its if you look down the small list, you’ll notice a folder labeled ‘Textures’.

Except maybe by your friends. Due to file size, you don’t have to download the files we will be covering from
here on out. The steps will apply to any Shaders or Textures you choose to
include in your creative adventures.
Joining us is optional too, but we’d love for you to come for a chat! Again, these are optional!
