Intensive CPD Course on State-of-the-Art Practices of BIM (Building Information Modelling)

We are pleased to inform you that Structural Design Institute has organised a Two-and-half months
Intensive Course on "State-of-the-Art Practices of BIM starting from basics to an advanced level.

What is BIM?
Building information modeling (BIM) is the state-of-the-art global trend of approaching the design and
documentation of building projects.
 Building - the entire lifecycle of the building is considered (design/build/operations)
 Information - all information about the building and its lifecycle is included
 Modeling - defining and simulating the building, its delivery, and operation using integrated tools

Why BIM?
BIM is the state-of-the-art design approach and a global trend in construction industry. In Singapore BIM is
already compulsory and in Europe and in many other countries BIM will be a compulsion from next year
onwards. As construction professionals of the Country we need to be well equipped with the cutting-edge
technologies like BIM, in order to lead the Sri Lankan Construction Industry to an International Level.
BIM provides several major advantages over traditional design approaches: BIM Models and manages not
just graphics, but also information – information that allows the automatic generation of drawings and
reports, design analysis, schedule simulation, facilities management, and more – ultimately enabling the
building team to make better-informed decisions. BIM supports a distributed team so that people, tools, and
tasks can effectively share this information throughout the building lifecycle.

Overview of BIM Course of Structural Design Institute:

Designed for those with no prior knowledge of Revit, and will introduce participants to the concept of Building
Information Modelling (BIM) and give hands-on practice with Revit’s tools for design, analysis, and
documentation. Afterwards, they’ll be able to use Autodesk Revit Structure to create and analyse a project,
and produce construction documentation and design visualisation.

For whom?
Structural Engineers, Civil Engineers who intend to be competent in state-of-the-art practices of BIM.
