1. Countable nouns are nouns that we can count. 1. Uncountable nouns are nouns that we cannot count.
They can be singular or plural. We cannot count them because they
e.g. I have a boiled egg for breakfast. - are too difficult to count.
I bought three books yesterday. e.g. rice, hair, sugar
The teachers in this school are very excellent. - do not have separate parts.
e.g. air, water, steam
- are abstract.
e.g. friendship, happiness, health

2. We use the indefinite article (a/ an) before 2. Uncountable nouns do not have a plural form. We do
singular nouns. not use an indefinite article (a/an) or numerals
e.g. a boiled egg (one, two, three, etc.) in front of these nouns.

3. We use a definite article (the) or a number 3. If we want to show the amount of an uncountable
before plural nouns. noun, we use quantity words in front of it.

4. We change most singular nouns to plurals by 4. We cannot use many/few with uncountable nouns,
