1. ABSTRACT

LCV is defined in the Motor Vehicles Act as a vehicle with GVW of not more
than 6 ton. A HCV is defined as vehicle with GVW of more than 6 ton. Gross
vehicle weight is defined as vehicle weight plus rated payload. Rated payload is
the maximum weight permitted to be loaded on the vehicle under Motor Vehicle
Act. The Tata 407 is a light commercial vehicle manufactured by Tata Motors.
Launched in 1986, in 2011 the 407-model sold more than 500,000 units. The
407 has a payload of 2.25 tones, an overall length of 4.7 meters, and a turning
circle radius of 5.5 meters. Tata purchased all of the pressing tools for Steyr's
591/691-series of trucks in the mid-eighties, a truck which was itself derived
from the 1967 Hanomag F-series. Vehicles weighing 26,001 pounds or more are
classified under the commercial category. Trucks are significant commercial
vehicles used to carry goods, both perishable and non-perishable, from one
corner of the country to another. Tata Motors has been a leading automobile
manufacturer in India to produce a range of light commercial vehicles and
heavy commercial vehicles such as trucks, tippers, tractors and trailers.
Trucks carrying a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3.5 metric tons and above
until 15 metric Ton can be categorized as light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
Using state-of-the-art technology, Tata Motors have launched some high-
performance trucks that are earmarked as outstanding LCVs in the business.
These include Tata 407, Tata 909, Tata 709 and the Tata Ultra range. These
versatile trucks compare favorably amongst the many others also being used
for different LCV functions - such as a poultry truck, closed container, mobile
ATM, PU tanker, ambulance and as other carriers.

3. SPCIFICATION OF VEHICLE

Light commercial trucks are the most preferred vehicles for the distribution
and transportation of goods over short distances and within preferred
geographical areas. The Tata Motors LCV models are considered as LCVs
because these trucks are medium in size and facilitate goods transport between
different cities. They are also tough and compact, have low operating costs and
their fuel-efficient engines make them extra suitable for intra-city operations.
Overall, the Tata LCV trucks are sturdy commercial vehicles that are the
backbone of the Indian goods transportation system.

The Tata Motors LCV’s are built with new generation features and
specifications:

• Air brakes giving higher braking efficiency

• Radial tires with low aspect ratio and 55% longer life
• Aesthetically designed world class cabin with storage space and safety
provisions intact
• Optimum loading height for easy loading and unloading

And many more useful high-end features – that are low on maintenance and
high on performance.

6. CONCLUSION/FINDINGS

• Tata Motors introduced Electronic FIP and Common Rail Engines in

India as early as 2011.
• This was followed by the launch of 'Ultra' range of international standard
ILCV Range of vehicles, matching the best in the world in performance -
but at a lower life-cycle cost.
• In the BS4 era (2017-2020) Tata Motors created more than 150,000
success stories with technologically advanced ILCV Range of vehicles.
• Tata Motors became the only company in India to provide 4 self-
developed engine options: 4SPCR, 3 Lt CR, 5L and 3.8Ltr SGI CNG and 4
Cabin Options (SFC, LPT, ULTRA& ULTRA Narrow).
• It is noteworthy that 4SPCR is the only engine in the industry that is
standing tall since the last 34 years and has gone through all the phases
of emission changes from BS1 toBS6. The technological advantage and
future-readiness that Tata Motors ILCV offers over competition is
evident.
• With more than 4000 Mileage trials conducted across the country, Tata
Motors ILCV was crowned as the "Mileage Champion" in BS4 ILCV Range
Industry. All these advantages made Tata Motors ILCV the no 1 choice
for customers in this era.
