Sia II
At 40 years old, Injap Sia is the country's youngest
billionaire. He is the founder of Mang Inasal, one of the
country's most popular food businesses. Yes, it's now owned
by Jollibee Foods Corporation, but the barbecued chicken
they offer was created by Injap Sia, whose moniker is derived
from his parents' ancestry: Edgar Sia Sr. is half Chinese or
Instik, while his mother Paz is half Japanese.

Background
Sia, born and raised in Roxas City,
Capiz, a small town 280 miles south of
Manila, to second-generation Chinese-
Japanese-Filipino parents. Sia worked
as a cashier at his parents' grocery
business on weekends since he was ten
years old.

He enrolled in the University of St.
Agustin in nearby Iloilo City to
study architecture, but dropped
out after one year. He
acknowledges that his mind was
"always elsewhere." His wandering
mind became obsessed with the
idea of launching his own
business.

Career
He opened an express picture store and a Laundromat in fast
succession. After that, he took out a bank loan to open a tiny budget
motel. However, bigger desires to expand beyond his provincial roots
prompted him to reconsider. The offer to rent a corner in a new food
hall arrived. Sia promptly reserved a 250-meter place in Robinson's mall
in Iloilo, despite not knowing what to put up. "At the time, the overhead
was low, so it wasn't that risky," he explains. Sia opted on inasal as the
most marketable meal after examining the varied culinary specialties of
the 16 regions using P2.4 million borrowed money.

Achievements
Sia is the chairman of DoubleDragon Properties (and co-owner
with billionaire Tony Tan Caktiong), and the founder of the Mang
Inasal fast food restaurant chain. In 2011, Sia become the youngest
billionaire in the Philippines at the age of 34 after selling his 70%
stake in Mang Inasal to Jollibee.

Sia was the small Business Entrepreneur winner handed out by Ernst and
Young in 2010
He received the Urban Leadership award from the Canadian Institute
because of his outstanding contribution to the enhancement of the
quality of life in Metro IloIlo- Guimaras area.

The springboard for Edgar Sia to be on the list
started when Jollibee Tony tan Caktiong bought 70%
of Mang Inasal for P 3 billion. It is a breakthrough for
Edgar Sia who founded his million barbecue chain in
Roxas City.

The Philippines is the 12th most popular country in the world with
over 90 million mouths to feed and getting into the food business
remains a very viable oppurtunity for entrepeneurs. How can another

business. He believes in hardwork and perseverance and encourages aspiring
entrepreneur to do the same

Sia consider that hardwork and innovation is the primary reason why Mang
Inasal is sucessful today.

The uniqueness he has to beat the odds as a new entrepeneur player in the
fast food industry.
He also believes that nothing is impossible with the right attitude and Do
not be intimidated by problems instead look at them as oppurtunities for

LETTING GO
The owner of Mang Inasal Philippines Inc., which was recently sold to giant
JOLLIBEE FOOD CORP said letting go of his chicken business chain was painful
for him. He expressed a deep sadness like a father parting with his child as he
hands over th ecare of the restaurant to the giant conglemerates.

Jollibee paying 3 billion for 70% stake in a Mang Inasal has made Sia "a very
sucessful businessman." The entire Mang Inasal Business at 4.3 billion Not a bad
deal for a business tha has annual total revenues of 2.6 billion and system wide
sale of 3.8 billion.

Despite the pain and the deep sadness,
Sia said he is "ecstatic and in high
spirits" since the future of his 7 years
old child is secured and filled with
great optimism.

Mang Inasal is doing its share and the unemployment burden of the
country. The Mang inasal business in acertain areas providing not only
employment but also the oppurtunities to community member including
the supplier of:
Kalamansi
Charcoal
Banana leaves
Vegetable
Bamboo stick
and any other ingredients
It indirectly gives income -generating activities to many.
