We can no longer live without technology.

First and foremost, technology has a broad meaning. According to dictionary.com, it is the branch of
knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life,
society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied
science, and pure science. Believe it or not, even before our ancestors were born, technology already
existed- in its simplest form. Stone tools are the first known technological invention. In the early 20th
century, technology started to rise inevitably. It has taken over the world. And as years passed, it
continuously breakthrough, and it has become a vital part of our everyday life. Imagine from stone tools
to sensor and voice automated gadgets we have today. These technological advances and inventions is
undeniably a game-changer.

We can no longer live without technology. As this statement goes, I, myself, totally agree with this. And
this is seen by just observing anywhere. According to Statista.com, almost 4.57 billion people were
active internet users as of July 2020, encompassing 59 percent of the global population. But let us not
limit the technology to the use of the internet since technology is more than just using the internet.

Your mother using a washing machine to clean your clothes, your brother watching television, your
father talking to someone using his cell phone, the vehicle you use when going somewhere far, the
laptop you are using now for an online class, the tractors used by the farmers, the food we are eating
was processed by machines. Especially now, that we are facing a global pandemic, technology is widely
and highly used by medical professionals and front liners to stop the virus’ spread and to find a cure, and
also it is essential for us common people, to continue with our lives without having physical contact as
mostly everything is done through online transactions. Do you see it? Technology is rooted in us ever
since it was invented and discovered. There are so many possibilities we can do through technology. It
has made our life way easier, more connected, more engaging, more productive, and more creative.

Even so, it is not all advantages, it also has its drawback, if not use well. Because the progression of our
technological state overwhelms our Mother Nature- it cannot keep up with the advances happening
around and also adversely affect our physical, mental, and emotional state. These are some proofs that
support these claims. The toxic air pollutions and chemicals released by factories that also contribute to
the destruction of our nature, deforestation, extinction of wild animals because their habitat is being
transformed into a commercialized place. Additionally, too much exposure to technological devices such
as cellphones, laptops, tablets, computer, and such can lead to serious health conditions, like, eyestrain,
obesity, insomnia, addiction, and depression, especially to us Gen Z, which are the generation of
younger people, after all, we are the most exposed and engaged to these technological devices and
various social media platforms. These are just some of its unfavorable effects if misused.

Given all this, this does not change the fact that we are moving the same path, which is forward. We
cannot go back to life before where technology is not present to aid us in our day-to-day living. Years,
decades will pass and our lives will become more advance and technology-dependent until the
foreseeable future. People are eager to learn how to make their life easier than what we have
experienced today. This is why, I am a firm believer that, we can no longer live without technology.
