1. QUARTER NO. & TITLE: QUARTER 3: SETUP COMPUTER NETWORKS

LESSON NO. & TITLE: Lesson 12: Wireless Router Configuration

I. WEEK NUMBER: Week 12

II. MODULE NUMBER: Module 12
III. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, students must be able to:
1. Changed Wifi Network Name;
2. Changed Security key/Password;
3. Configured DHCP and LAN IP of the router;
4. Set the reserved IP addresses of PC’s and wireless devices;
5. Configured the wireless MAC address Authentication

ACTIVITY:
Answer the following questions on a sheet of paper:
PRE-TEST
1. What is a wireless router?

2. How to change security password of a router?

I. DISCUSSION:
Wireless Network

A Wireless Network, or commonly called as WLAN or Wi-Fi uses radio signal frequency to connect
computers and other network devices. This is based on the IEEE 802.11 standards rules and regulations.

What are the benefits of a Wireless Network?

1. Flexibility. With no wires you can easily access your network resources from any location.
2. Cost. It reduces the cost of installation and labor.
3. Security. The wireless network uses a wireless router which has security features to encrypt your
network traffic.

What is a Wireless Router?

It is a device that performs like a wired router without using cable to connect to a network.

Wireless Router
How to Configure a Wireless Router?
a) Changing Network name and Security key.
1. Plug in AC Adapter and press the power button.

2. Connect one end of networking cable to the Ethernet port

of the router and connect the other end to the LAN adapter of a PC or
Laptop.

3. Access the router configuration panel through a web browser

and on the URL tab type the IP address 192.168.0.1 or type
http: tplinklogin.net (Note: This IP address is intended for TP
Link routers).

4. On the log in menu, enter the default username “admin” and

the default password “admin”.
5. Once the username and password were verified and accepted the
main panel of router configuration will appear, click on Wireless
then choose Wireless Setting. Change the default Wireless Network
name to your last name Ex. BRIONES then Click Save.

6. After changing and saving the Wireless Network name, it’s time
to change the default password by clicking the Wireless Security
tab. Once the Wireless Security tab was clicked, another panel will
appear. Change the Wireless Password, ex. 123456789 then
click Save.

7. Once the configuration was changed and saved, the device is

required to reboot. Click the System Tools Tab on the lower
part of the panel and click Reboot.
8. After the router configuration, search for the wireless network
through notification area. Connect the laptop of wireless device
like cellular phone from wireless network, type in the password,
then click connect.

b). Configured DHCP and LAN IP of the router

1. On the main panel of the router configuration, select the
“Network” and click the LAN. Change the Default LAN IP form
192.168.0.1 into you desired LAN IP ex. 200.191.1. (after changing the
default LAN IP, the router will restart and the default gateway will be changed
into your chosen LAN IP)

On your computer, to refresh and detect the new default LAN IP, go
to CMD, type ipconfig/release and enter. Then type ipconfig/renew and
enter to refresh and show the new ip configuration.

2. On the main panel of the router configuration, select the “DHCP”

and click the DHCP settings. Set the Starting IP Address to
200.192.1.100 and Ending IP Address to 200.192.1.200, then click
Save.
DHCP Address Reservation is used to assign a specific IP address to specific MAC address on the
LAN. A MAC address is also referred to as a hardware address or a physical address. The address
consists of 12 characters, or hexadecimal digits. Unlike the decimal numerical system you use in
everyday life, the hexadecimal system consists of 16 digits: the numerals 0 through 9 and the letters A
through F. For example, "00:11:22:AA:BB:CC" (without quotes) is an example of what a MAC address
might look like. The first three groups of digits identify the manufacturer; the last three groups of digits
represent a serial number.

1. To assign specific IP address, get the MAC address of the PC. Go to CMD, type getmac. The
MAC address of a computer will show. Next, go to DHCP address reservation; select add new
and type the MAC and the reserved IP Address. Select Enabled and Save. (on the address
reservation box, the list of MAC address and Reserved IP address will show at enabled status.

1. Configured the wireless MAC address Authentication

MAC address authentication is a method used for Network Admission
Control (NAC). It controls user access rights based on access ports and
user MAC addresses to protect security for enterprise networks.
In computer networking, MAC Filtering refers to a security access
control method whereby the MAC address assigned to each network
card is used to determine access to the network.

Steps in MAC Address Filtering:

1. On the main panel of the router configuration, select the
“Wireless” and click the “Wireless MAC Filtering”.
2. Select Add New and type the MAC Address of the wireless
device you want to filter/block to prevent access in connecting
to the internet network. Select Enabled status and the click
Save.

II. PRACTICE/APPLICATION:

III. ASSESSMENT:

Do the task sheet no. 2

IV. REFLECTION:

Explain the importance of using the right networking cable in every networking job.

V. FEEDBACK: (Teacher’s comments or reactions after submission and checking.)
