    The blood absorbs oxygen and expels carbon dioxide in the lungs.

    1 Deoxygenated blood enters the right side of the heart and is pumped to the lungs.

    The heart pumps the oxygenated blood to all parts of the body.

    Oxygenated blood then enters the left side of the heart.

    Deoxygenated blood returns to the heart.

    • Elicit from the pupils how the circulatory system works.


    • Give each pupil a red crayon or pencil and a blue one. Ask them to colour the paths of
    oxygenated blood red and the paths of deoxygenated blood blue on their diagrams.
    • Ask them to read and order the sentences.
