INTRODUCTION
This paper’s intention is to spread awareness to our generation in addition to
support the knowledge and effect of depression to humankind. As the global pandemic
continues, it resulted to many changes in our everyday lives that is considered to be as
the “new normal”. With this deadly virus (COVID-19), the government was left with no
choice but to ensure the safety of its own people. Yet, as the phrase “Kabataan ang Pag-
Asa ng Bayan” drive its way to the ears of our leaders, they quickly agreed and believed
that learning shouldn’t stop right then and there. They came up with the idea of bringing
knowledge to the student’s perspective homes. By this period, online learning became
the media’s head topic for a long while. However, as time passes by, troubled teens
struggled more and more with their financial and mental health. Many couldn’t afford
online learning since it requires a bit of scratch to our credit cards. Some couldn’t take
this in and this event was instantly followed by a sudden increase of suicidal attempts
belonging to human existence. Depression is a mental disorder and is believed that no
words can ever describe it. Therefore, depression is now acknowledged to be the
modern age’s disease that will surely carve its name on our history.

One of the conditions to live a life far from depression is by doing physical activities.
Study shows that doing sports or exercising helps to relieve stress, depression and
anxiety. This action is said to be as effective as the medication given by experts to their
patients. Together with this is the remedy of Vitamin D or as we call it “sunlight”.
Sunlight helps us especially by this time since so much of us are spending less time
outdoors. Sunlight gives the human body better bone health, immune system, muscle
health and much more. This helps us to make sure that we sleep and wake up at the
right and exact time. Next to this is getting 7-8 hours of sleep every day. It is clearly
shown that a healthy sleep is a must in order to complete a successful medication for
depression. Furthermore, another cause of this is overthinking. Though there’s
absolutely nothing wrong towards thinking about the past, thinking too much of it may
harm our mentality. Instead, let us make use of this time to engage ourselves in other
activities such as hobbies, arts, music and maybe even talking with friends. These could
distract our playful and deceitful minds.
The words that are put together by our circle aims and hopes to offer a helping
hand to those who struggles to win this fight so that somehow, as students. We can
make all the pain bearable. Together.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES / RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1. How is depression diagnosed and treated?

2. What efforts are underway to improve the treatment of depression?
3. What are some of the signs and symptoms of depression?
4. What is treatment-resistant depression?

Methodology
Our group came up with the topic about depression. We chose this topic because
many people nowadays are suffering from depression due to the pandemic that the
world is experiencing. As a youth that belongs to the new generation, we’re the one who
is much affected by depression or we are the one who can be a victim of this. We focus
on this to address them that depression is a serious problem which leads to suicidal. As
a child of the future, we want to voice to be heard and that depression can be treated. In
making this concept every one of us shared their experience or knowledge about
depression. Thus cooperation needs in this concept. Also, every one of us made a
research about the concept for better understanding and to have more information
about it. We utilized the social media to make a survey by creating a survey form with
questionnaires. As we gather these information from different persons with different
ages and gender, we managed to know what we the causes and consequences of
getting involved into the focus of this concept paper is to really raise awareness and to
voice out to those victim that depression can be.
Benefits / Anticipated Outcomes
This concept paper about depression is beneficial for those people who is
suffering from this kind of mental illness. Owing to the fact that through this, they can
learn more about the definition of depression and be educated on how it may be
diagnosed and treated. Along with this concept paper, we managed to gather
everyone’s opinion about the stated topic. It is expected that most people can relate to
this since it is a rising struggle at the present time and as a result to that, this approach
will not only be successful but will also give knowledge to a lot of people.

Support Needed
For this advocacy here are some ways to cope up or deal with depression:
•Reach out and stay connected - Getting support plays an essential role in
overcoming depression. On your own, it can be difficult to maintain a healthy
perspective and sustain the effort required to beat depression.
•Do things that make you feel good -In order to overcome depression, you have to
do things that relax and energize you.
•Get moving - When you’re depressed, just getting out of bed can seem like a
daunting task, let alone working out! But exercise is a powerful depression fighter—and
one of the most important tools in your recovery arsenal.
•Eat a healthy, depression-fighting diet - What you eat has a direct impact on the
way you feel. Reduce your intake of foods that can adversely affect your brain and
mood, such as caffeine, alcohol, trans fats, and foods with high levels of chemical
preservatives or hormones (such as certain meats).
•Get a daily dose of sunlight -Sunlight can help boost serotonin levels and improve
your mood. Whenever possible, get outside during daylight hours and expose yourself
to the sun for at least 15 minutes a day. Remove sunglasses (but never stare directly at
the sun) and use sunscreen as needed.
•Challenge negative thinking - Depression puts a negative spin on everything,
including the way you see yourself and your expectations for the future.

How to reach out for depression support:

•Look for support from people who make you feel safe and cared for. - The
person you talk to doesn’t have to be able to fix you; they just need to be a good
listener—someone who’ll listen attentively and compassionately without being distracted
or judging you.
•Make face-time a priority. - Phone calls, social media, and texting are great ways
to stay in touch, but they don’t replace good old-fashioned in-person quality time
•Try to keep up with social activities even if you don’t feel like it. - Often when
you’re depressed, it feels more comfortable to retreat into your shell, but being around
other people will make you feel less depressed.
•Find ways to support others - It’s nice to receive support, but research shows
you get an even bigger mood boost from providing support yourself.
•Care for a pet - While nothing can replace the human connection, pets can bring
joy and companionship into your life and help you feel less isolated
•Join a support group for depression - Being with others dealing with depression
can go a long way in reducing your sense of isolation.
